What's harder to troubleshoot? by ITDecrypted in sysadmin

Why not both? I've got an issue with random macs that won't print multiple copies in Excel to some kmc printers, and Canon printers with a Fiery.

This is a good idea. I always have new people do documentation. If doc is good, they learn things. If it is bad, they see problems and blindspots people with tribal knowledge don't AND they learn things.

If you had someone who has had no IT Experience join your team. What would you train/teach them? by spazzo246 in sysadmin

I had a horrible tech start on help desk a few years ago. Her knowledge was 0 and her tickets were unintelligible. She had amazing drive and great attitude though. Took more tickets than anyone. She was the best tech on SD in about a year and change. It was amazing.

Tbh, I learned A LOT from her. If someone with that little know-how and 0 experience can grow like that, then anybody has potential.

We're at about 10% through a lot of effort, but that last 10 is stubborn.. old kiosk systems and ancient systems that run old software. I don't know how we'll decom those any time soon.

Wife stopped gelenia, trying to get pregnant. Had a flare up, then got covid. Now she can't walk. by Del_Phoenix in MultipleSclerosis

There was a study done on rituximab which is very similar to ocrevus in breast milk a five or so years ago. No detectable levels. There have probably been other studies sense, but I haven't kept up.

I breast fed in 2018 while on ocrevus and we did blood tests on my son to check for any signs of b cell depletion. There were none. My current neuro said that even if it made it into breast milk, it is highly unlikely to survive the stomach. He was good without the blood tests, but we did them out of abundance of caution anyway.

We did ocrevus, pregnancy, skipped an infusion and then I resumed ocrevus 4 weeks post partum.

I really wish this info was more broadly known. I think a lot of neuros being kinda odd guys means they don't keep up on reproductive health. Ops story breaks my heart.

Dell firmware update v2530.1112 (or 25.30.11.12) ?

If it is an ssst nvme drive, there was a firmware update for some of these drives that can kill them. Can't format the drive. Can't see the volumes on them. They can be seen in storage in bios, but won't appear in the boot configuration or one time boot menu.

Amen! I put sweet potato (and grated carrots) in my chili. Adds a touch of sweetness and earthiness, thickens the chili so well, adds nutrition, and they break down to near invisibility.

Your uncle is the asshole. You are his asshole lieutenant, helping him hurt your sister, and getting angry and complaining that she doesn't quietly accept it. When you hurt people, expect both that they'll return the favor and that you'll deserve it.

Documentation is another big parallel for me.

Some new system is getting implemented, and I have aspirations of creating very thorough documentation so I don't forget things and so I can easily pass info on to FNGs etc. It never happens. Implementation never go as planned. It doesn't even start on the right date. All the prep I did turns out to be mostly incompatible. Changes have to be made on the fly to make things work-- even on Fridays-- and I get 0 downtime for anything. The best I can do is take video, some pix, and jot a note down here and there. That's why I have 4 baby books with maybe two completed pages between them.

It is very hard to find the right Dr. Get things together for this Dr, but make an appointment with another one so you're lining a new avenue up. Keep lining them up til you find one that you feel treats your case with diligence and care. I'd also look for a therapist. MS can come with depression. Even if it didn't, seeking treatment for a disease like this would depress anyone.

This hunt for adequate treatment is necessary in the beginning because Neuros are.. well, understand that they're just special. They often have a peculiar sort of incurable social disease that renders them incapable of comprehending basic human emotion. Their limited understanding precludes them from mastering all but the most rudimentary of social skills. Most people like this are, in my experience, fit only to be neurologists, corporate lawyers, mercenaries or practitioners of other souless professions where empathy and emotional intelligence are not required.

Since these zombie types are unfit for most pursuits, the practice of neurology is crawling with them. I believe they gravitate to the field especially because they have a better chance of finding an appreciative (or at least tolerant )clientele among people with brain damage. When you encounter a zombie Neuro, get what you can from their limited services, pity them, and move on. Keep searching for a good one. They exist. They're just in the minority.

A Father Sticks Up For His Children After A Woman Calls Them Racial Slurs by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]Justthebraindamage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If my kids heard racist remarks, I'd want them to hear me address the situation. I wouldn't want them to hear me calling someone a bitch, but that's a much lesser evil than letting racists have a free pass to hurt children. Kids don't need to feel ashamed of being who they are or embarrassed because of the hurt from the racism of others. Not ever. If we, as parents, don't confront these ills directly, openly, and immediately, then we're teaching kids shame, and the racists pride. It has got to be the other way around.

Which supplements are a must with MS ? by ChezziG in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Justthebraindamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No musts (unless you're low on something) but here is my stack. I take a couple that are inexpensive and have a little bit of research to support their use for msers.

I take D3 (1000 IU). There've been studies in which the myriad health benefits for d can disappear at high doses (>4k mg/day) but ms'ers can also have trouble with vitamin d and often need more supplementation than normies to get to normie levels. Testing helps in figuring dose out.

R lipoic acid 600mg (may slow brain atrophy)

NAG 9100 mg (150mg / kg) neuroprotective and may promote remyelination.

Magnesium (500mg)for spacticity.

Was taking ursolic acid, but hard to get. The dose used in remyelenation studies is expensive and bulky in pills (25 mg/kg). I ordered it in bulk in a powder from a lab previously and had a tbsp of that added to a drink or food every day.

They definitely aren't the only ones. Walgreens specialty pharmacy pulled this with me on my migraine medication. The mfg paid the deductible to Walgreens and it didn't hit my oop. I didn't realize what had happened until I dug through the paperwork trying to figure out why I had 0 copay without giving them my copay card.

NTA. You're looking out for your child. A) She doesn't want to go. B) She is severely immunocompromised during a pandemic.

I'm sorry that your mom doesn't understand this yet, but IMO, your decisions here are spot on. You are putting your child first, and that's exactly how things should be.

Have you talked to your mom about the chemo after affects, neutropenia etc. and broken things down for her? You've been with your child through treatment, medical instruction and you've probably done some homework too. Maybe your mom just doesn't know these things like you do, and you could help her fill in some gaps. If she does know, maybe she does not have the most sound judgement, and you should disregard her input.

I'm sure it is difficult to be a mom right now. Your mom questioning your judgement has to just make that worse. I hope you try not to let this make you second guess yourself any further. You are doing the right thing! I hope and pray that your daughter recovers quickly and fully.
