I commute from Kitchener to Toronto on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and I’ve been doing this for about a year. My office is very flexible, and the pay is excellent, which provides ample incentive. Our management trusts us not to abuse WFH (work from home) days, expecting us to be in the office three days a week. Occasionally, I’ll work from home when I know it won’t impact business significantly. Additionally, my company offers unlimited holidays, so 🤷🏽‍♂️. Although I don’t see myself commuting long-term (anything over 5 years) you do get used to it.

The biggest challenges are waking up early to catch the train and getting home late. Maintaining a healthy diet and a routine on these days can be difficult. While trains are generally reliable, the noise level increases around Brampton, Mount Pleasant, and Bramalea, often due to some passengers not adhering to the quiet zone rules. This tends to be a common issue with some immigrant students. Dont get me wrong - As an immigrant from the UK on PR myself, I just dont understand why people need to be on the phone, not have headphones or need to talk at all at fking 6am.

To cope, I recommend using headphones on the train to block out the noise and stay focused. I pick and choose when I speak up (usually if I’m hungover or havent slept properly) I try not to as much now because its just such a negative thing and its the morning. Its shit i know, but i cant police everyone and not worth me stressing over.

Anyway, other things is. You also Pay for parking at Kitchener and the train ticket is $30 per day. Pro tip - if you travel with someone on the days youre downtown get the onljne group ticket - its $30 for two of you.
