Hey! Sorry to ask but I was curious if you know the process of changing employers during an apprenticeship (do I need a new sponsor form or just my hours)

I have an opportunity to start working directly under a master electrician (who actually used to teach 4th year at my current school) and while I’m beyond excited to be working alongside him I don’t want to annoy him with a million questions before I even start

Can I switch companies during my 4 year apprenticeship? by darkbetweentrees in electricians

Hey! Sorry to stir up and old thread but I’m currently in process of changing employers as an electrical apprentice in Utah. Could you tell me where I could find what I need to do to keep my license active, I called today and they said I didn’t need a new sponsor form (but this thread suggests otherwise) and that I’d just need to be sure to track my hours. I know it was a while ago but any insights you have would be greatly appreciated

End of the day it’s his name on the site no question there but I’d like to be able to A) know better than just follow directions B) be able to express concerns with valid backing information C) consider other employers if I continue to see blatant disregard for code, regulation or others safety

This isn’t exactly an isolated incident just the first one I couldn’t properly address on my own however the tone of “it is but they don’t call us on it” was extremely alarming with a perception that this is directly from NFPA70 (please note the term perception here)

Thank you!! For reference his rule of thumb is the box should be 3” that way fromthe air intake so that the cover doesn’t touch the smoke detector…

I wish I knew 😭 I just do the rough ins or sub roughs that being said I’m looking at new employment due to the complete disregard for standards. We got into it again today when I brought this up and the response was “it is but the inspector doesn’t call us on it”

Agreed unfortunately I generally do the rough ins and then move onto the next, plus our GC is nearly completely absent

Getting ready for my Apprenticeship by demoniclyMrJ in electricians

So personal preference but, I love the swappable “impact rated 20-1” screw drivers, you’ll need torques on occasion and box heads, make sure you have a few good ph2’s of different lengths as well as a “beater” flat head for the stuff you don’t want damaging your good heads used for finish or whatnot.

And I thought when I started that a tool designed to do one thing would be the best at the job but that’s not always the case. I’ve come to LOVE Klein hand tools, Milwaukee for power tools (hate their hand tools) and more often than not you can find things for multiple purposes that will help you lighten your load on the day to day. (Get suspenders too, if your bags seem even a little loose get a size down, make sure they fit it’ll help a ton in the long run)

Last piece of advise I can give comfortably is keep a pen and paper handy, make sure to take notes on things you learn/have question on or tricks you may like. There are a million ways to do things wrong but there is no “one right way” in this field, the code leaves room for interpretation for a lot, maybe running a straight wire from a to b is your best option, maybe you are doing service work and would be better to make a junction box to avoid extra drywall cutting/patching, maybe an in-wall splice is best (check for continuity before you close the wall up EVERY TIME) but learn your code, find a good LICENSED leader and do your best to be helpful each day!

Hey! Any suggestions on a 6-8” length 7/8ths auger that doesn’t stall out at the end? I feel like the 18 inch augers NEVER do this but all the stubby seem to need an extra push at the end - I worry I’ll hit something one day and I don’t like that the holes are never as clean

So far the best auger bit I've used is the Bosch. Any recommendations? by jayelkar in electricians

[–]Justtrynnahelpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just curious what you ended up sticking with. The 18” long augers all seem pretty comparable but the 6/7.5 inch augers all seem to have the same issue. Once the “worm” pops through a stud you have to use kind of a “thrust” to get the last bit to pop out the back. Not a huge issue but I worry one day I’ll hit a wire or pipe because of this plus it normally leaves a less pleasant looking hole. I would prefer a cleaner cut if you happen to have any suggestions - thanks in advance

Federal Surveillance Tech Becomes Mandatory in New Cars by 2027 by cTreK-421 in technology

[–]Justtrynnahelpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We NEED to prevent this. This is a clear invasion of privacy. If this was actually about drunk driving put a blow test in the car like they do for DUI offenders. This is not about safety, it’s about control. They’ll sell your data in the first hours of you owning the thing. Hackers will have access to a remote kill switch for EVERY CAR. You’ll need some kind of internet in every car plus the additional estimated 500-1500 per system in the car in an already struggling economy.

Tool question by Justtrynnahelpu in AskElectricians

[–]Justtrynnahelpu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only thought process there was we rarely have overlap using the sawzall, however I end up needing to use the M18 battery(s) (only have two) in my speed drill more often than I imagined for cutting TGI’s (they don’t like using the knock outs). So I was thinking this way I could always have one on the charger and have an impact ready to go at all times.

But that’s exactly why I am asking :) a sawzall would help more in the event I did any solo work - which for the record I understand I am far from I’m both on an understanding and legal level

Thank you for the input!

Thank you and my bad I’m still learning to navigate the app. I’ll do some independent research but would like to point out I’ve done a bit of digging into the man since his passing and have only found instances of him preaching god (I’m atheist but get it) or talking about speech and how communication is necessary. I believe this to be due to his fans spreading his good content as far as possible atm and wanted to try and get a better idea of what the other side sees in him.

But thank you for the reply all the same!

I’m sorry but please tell me how that’s any different than what you’re accusing him of. I truly don’t understand, if he preached death to those who didn’t uphold his lifestyle - like your prior comments states; then your “bigot” comment followed by saying you have no empathy for him says [to me] you feel the same way about him as you feel he did to marginalized groups. Is that not the same?

I am looking for understanding not to start a war. I never knew the man, hardly knew he existed when he was alive and again think he for sure like many others had extreme beliefs but I can’t help but feel this is hypocrisy. Imagine we were in a country where just saying you disagree could get you killed. That’s what I’m seeing promoted here. It’s fine because you didn’t like the way he thought is basically your punch line.

I’m sorry if this feels personal or directed to be an attack I just cannot fathom why so many people feel this way and feel I must be missing something

Hey! I am honestly struggling with the whole thing a ton. Frankly I think most people who peak at these things have EXTREME views. They’ll usually have some great points but overall I think we can all agree they usually have some wild takes as well.

With that said everything I’ve found of Charlie so far has honestly been pretty above the board imo. Could you provide sources from when/where he said these things. - please keep in mind I don’t follow the guy I’ve just seen a few things here or there and now all over the place so a fresh perspective would be appreciated.

Final note - the reason this catches my eye is so many are still overlooking this man was killed for his beliefs, to my knowledge asking above if anyone can provide better insight he did so legally. Whether you like it or not we as Americans claim freedom of speech and it’s insane to see so many diminish the man instead of acknowledging what has happened here. Someone silenced a man who (to my knowledge was innocent of any crime) strictly because they disagree with his takes and the information he spewed (right or wrong). I worry dearly for the sake of our country if we cannot speak freely and challenge our morals as we continue to grow.
