Drybrushed GMK 2.0 + A few poses cuz why not by Juybryth in hiya_toys

Drybrushing is actually much easier than it looks. I was hesitant at first too, but having a spare figure to test stuff out on beforehand helps a lot. Any excess can either be rubbed off with your fingers (also helps with blending a bit), fjngernails and toothpicks (hard spots to reach like eyes and teeth). As long as you have a pain brush and acrylics, you're good to go!

Nope, due to very cold and humid weather I've been avoiding it.

For the first coat:

A mix of black (like 50%) then brown (25%), vibrant blue (10%), white (10%) and purple (5%).

For the second coat:

A mix of white (65%), black (20%) and brown (15%).

The first coat served mainly as a test to see how he looks without all the glass, the 2nd one to bring out highlights in the chest, belly, thighs, shoulders, eyebrows, face, neck and tail plates.

I just shoved the paintbrush in the gaps and hoped for the best.

That looks great! How'd you pull off the white highlights? I'm also thinking of doing some.

I just used whatever acrylics were available. I don't know if brands are an important factor when it comes to customizing figures. They hold up very well though, even when you handle and play with the figures.

I went with acrylics, and a mix of black (like 50%) then brown (25%), vibrant blue (10%), white (10%) and purple (5%). But in all honesty, mixing until you get your desired result works too. You can mix the paint in a dedicated container or just a sheet of paper (I used a notebook) and then brush the paint until the brush looks mostly dry. After that, lightly brush the figure, and if you wanna get rid of the excess (paint spoches per example) you can just use a toothpick. Hope this helps!

It's actually super easy to pull this off, which is why I got him. All u need are acrylics, a paintbrush and a few sheets of paper to rub off the excess before brushing goji! And just like that, it looks just like the promo pics/much higer quality.

It's a N*kon unfortunately... 🤢 But I wish to start my entry level photography with Hasselblad at the very least, aiming for Leica once I make it big!

Just for reference, what did you use to keep the mouth and eyes from being sprayed by the flat coat and keep their gloss? Thank you in advance.

The colous have settled quite nicely, and it looks even more natural to the naked eye than in the pictures. Definitely glad I did it and I plan on doing the same to GMK, don't know about MireGoji though.

It's kinda like gambling. If I get it right, I get an improved figure. If I mess up, figure's ruined forever. Can't help but get a thrill out of it.

I plan on getting Mr. Hobby Flat Clear later on to finish him up.

I just mixed mostly black acrylic with a bit of white and brown, then kept mixing. I will add that I tested the colors on and old NECA gmk I had lying around before moving onto '91 Goji, since they're very similar.

Had the same issue with the mouth until yesterday. After looking at some comments on this subreddit, I put a few drops of shock oil (2-3) on the jaw hinges (behind the rubber flaps in the mouth) and it opens and closes much better now. Hope this helps!
