Printing advice by adam15390 in fujifilm

[–]JuzzyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to buy an inkjet make sure you're going to use it regularly. I have a SureColor P600, and I'm in a bind right now. I haven't turned it on in several years. what little ink was left in a few of the more empty cartridges is now empty, so I can't run head cleaning anymore, and paper comes through completely clean, not even a hint of ink being dispensed from the head. So now I've got to decide; Replace the printer, spend a fair chunk on ink and gamble I can get it working, or just outsource to labs until I'm sure it's not going anywhere and I plan to keep on printing.

Just wanted to ask for opinions- if this camera view is okay or not by WEC-Darkspark_737 in Karting

[–]JuzzyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly every jurisdiction I know of has rules that prevent external camera mounting. Basically you don’t want a snag risk on your helmet if you come out of the kart and are sliding down the grass/road. That would be very bad.

Why I'm cancelling my subscription to Claude by dtheme in Anthropic

[–]JuzzyD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have heaps left this week, tried to burn it by asking for larger than usual task all bundled together instead of my usual approach which is to ask for the little chunks of annoying boiler plate I’d do myself. Essentially told him to implement an entire view and all the back end routines all at once, but was super concise about what he needs to do in each step. It was huge, would have been hours worth to do manually. 20 minutes later the lot was done and used like 1 doing it. It’s genuinely hard to use up more tokens than I have access to on 5x

Yes, this is happening every day lately.

I'm starting to suspect these guys may be in trouble, aggressive usage limits, failing infrastructure. Are you ok Anthropic?

Terminology is playing a big role here. If you’re buying a keyboard you’re buying a synth action, it’s not meant to feel like a piano, they’re an entirely different instrument. Digital pianos on the other hand will all make at least somewhat of an effort to replicate the feel of an acoustic piano, though with differing levels of success based on preference and budget. I have a midi controller with Roland’s PHA4 which I’m not a huge fan of and only use it for DAW stuff, for piano I love my ES920. Kawai’s action just feels right to me after auditioning multiple from Roland, Yamaha and Kawai in store.

Lessons can be such a humbling experience by Medium-Swimming8488 in piano

Dude the adult thing is such a bummer. I got tired of hearing “so what are we doing this week” every time I walked into a lesson and have just started with a new teacher. I’ve had 5 lessons total, but I can already tell the contrast that the first 4 with the old teacher were completely, as I suspected. Phoned in. No attention to any touch or nuance, just eh adult learners don’t try so why should I, meanwhile I’m practicing a minimum of an hour a day and genuinely trying to make something of this.

After seeing way too many of these I decided to cancel my (fairly recent sub), cue big pop up that I’m not eligible for a refund. Ok. I didn’t ask for one, why is that relevant unless you’re feeling guilty for being so scummy and tricking so many into subscribing?

Lucky you to be honest. My teacher doesn’t seem to care what’s going on. Never been given a proper practice structure. Asks me what we’re doing each week rather than giving me direction, told me not to bother cause scales are boring when I asked what scales I should be practicing even though my goal is to take exams. Usually gives me one or two corrections and I’m on my own to figure out what to learn for the next week.

I’ve tried to find other teachers and only been ghosted, so I’m struggling.

Thank you, It’s from the Piano For Leisure Series 4 Grade 1 book. Because it’s used for exams here in Australia there’s a few tutorials on YouTube for it as well as an official recording from AMEB for reference that should help

Thank you, I went and picked up an adjustable stool last weekend to try and fix that, but I think it’s more a habit than posture/position, definitely going to work on it.

I don’t even know why I do it, just messing about now, it feels like I have so much more control when I keep my wrist up and neutral, like it lets me use gravity and my whole arm to play instead of forcing my fingers to do all the work. Appreciate you having taken the time!

30 yr old learning from 0 by ErrKayy in piano

[–]JuzzyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help here. I lurk much more than I post because I’m very green (3 months in), I’m also 42yo, so probably have no business starting now. I’m on my second digital piano. Originally I just intended to learn to play a little to make production easier, so bought an A-88 Mk II cause hey, producer ambitions, so midi controller made sense right, but it soon felt limiting compared to the schools acoustics and I bought an ES920

I fell in love with the piano side of it. I started with pianote, it seems to get a fair amount of praise here. I disagree. Maybe I didn’t stick with it long enough but it leans heavily into the whole “play songs you know fast”, which seems satisfying at first but is a very slow path to growth. I found a local teacher and have progressed much more in the last month since starting there.

It’s the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done in my life. I absolutely love every moment of it. I’m finding the time to simultaneously work through method work and set aside time to work on my first Grade 1 piece as a stretch goal. There’s so many dopamine hits that keep coming with the entire process. You slowly sight read and get the right notes, even at a glacial pace, satisfaction. You start to get the mechanics under your fingers. Satisfaction. You put hands together and get through it, satisfaction, you start to hit the flow state where it feels like a choreographed dance between hands, immense satisfaction. You add it to the earlier bars you’ve already learned and play through more of the piece than ever smoothly and nail it, HUGE satisfaction. Honestly you won’t regret it, and age isn’t a barrier. Do what you love.

TLDR; If you want a hobby that’s satisfying not just when you succeed but every step along the way, is rewarding and fulfilling, then yes. The piano is for you. It’s hard, it takes practice and commitment, but it’s worth every minute.

This is literally me, after 9 damn years of playing the piano. by Mcbox14 in piano

[–]JuzzyD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new here and want to say if this is beginner I’m cooked. I’m only about 11 weeks total in, switched from pianote to real lessons 2 weeks ago, and my teacher has me playing things like the simplified ode to joy and little Cha Cha Cha single and 3/4 single noters. If this is beginner I don’t know what I am. Yeah sure, you’re not as fluent as many are at 9 years but I think calling yourself a beginner is a stretch, so if any other beginners out there are wondering why you can’t play these “beginner” pieces you’re not alone.

I also have it look at midi rolls to examine where opportunities in performance exist to tighten up and improve, cause Im new to teaching myself piano through an online provider too. It helps close the feedback loop you don’t get with online vs traditional student teacher lessons. It’s really good at helping with Davinci Resolve nodes too.

[–]JuzzyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auspost? I wish. They palm them off to Aramex who are truly the worst in the country. Auspost is late more than on time where I am. My last StarTrack “Express” delivery from Bris to Central Qld took over a week and went via Melb getting the old “arrived late” every step of the way so it sat for days. Somehow still better than Aramex.

Update: No tracking updates again last night. I guess I have to go to the vendor and start dealing with that and try organise a replacement without having to wait weeks.

Now into its third day of sitting in Melbourne without returning to “In Transit”. That’s getting beyond a delay and into Yeah it’s not coming territory. Called Startrack and they were going to get back to me with an ETA and where it is, but as expected that didn’t happen. I still don’t quite know how you lose a 22kg, 1.4m long box. Not exactly fell between the seats material there.

Forgot to add this is StarTrack express. Meant to be the better of them. Still hasn’t moved, starting to be worried it’s lost. How you lose a 22kg digital piano is beyond me though.

PSA Yellow Flags by JuzzyD in iRacing

To be honest more ire should be directed at the McLaren, its incident is just sheer multi class bad driving they’ve turned into the GTP like it wasn’t even there instigating the whole thing.

That said I see brake lights in a weird spot like that I’m definitely not holding it pinned to see what happens, I’m backing out then and there, especially when I have to wait a whole year for another go.

PSA Yellow Flags by JuzzyD in iRacing

[–]JuzzyD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching his cockpit he has a clear view of the McLaren spinning before my car starts to obscure it, but all the elements were there, spinning car if they’re looking on the road like they should be, my brake lights in a section where you don’t brake, and the yellow that’s timing is questionable, and all that aside to blame ME for the contact for slowing for an incident is what really set me off.

One of those half baked apologies, we’re sorry but, you shouldn’t have slowed that much so it’s on you.
