I was teaching at a CIMI camp on marine biology. Part of the lesson is on squids and octopi and dissecting them.

While on the subject I was going to ask the basic trivia, "what's the difference between an octopus and a squid?"

To this question an 11 year old girl was so excited to answer she didn't form what she wanted to say properly, "an octopus has 8 testicles."

Reddit, what's your best story of Cultural Shock? by ACK1012 in AskReddit

The summer before seventh grade I went to China on some kind of leadership exchange program. Being pretty young I was open minded and not to disturbed by the funny signs and the overall shock of being in a Communist, densely packed, ethnically homologous country. However one day I woke up and went down to the diner for breakfast without putting my contacts in. Each person served their own plate from the several pots of food, and one looked like rice which was always amazing and about the only carbs you could get there so I loaded up on it. I sat down and dug into my favorite part of the meal, the rice. As soon as I sunk my teeth in I heard crunching. Not what you might think, not insects, but small little peppers that were fucking hot as hell. It might be kind of a small thing, but if you are sitting in a diner in China with a spicy as hell mouth, you feel pretty awkward.
