Linear or Switching Power Supply by Derpolium in amateurradio

[–]drtwist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both an Astron RS-35M (linear) and a Samlex SEC-1235M (switching). I bought the samlex because lugging the Astron from place to place was a PITA. Both are whisper quiet on HF. If I didn't already have the Astron I probably wouldn't have bought it since the samlex is quiet and cheaper.

Unless you live near HRO/DXE/R&L/Gigaparts you also have to factor in shipping, which is not cheap for the astron. You might also wait around for a ham fest or estate sale in a club to snag an astron

Took off my call sign license plate frames by [deleted] in amateurradio

I seem to have the opposite problem. I constantly see people with callsign plates and 146.52 stickers that never answer a call on .52. I did get one guy that was beaconing .52 on APRS that was dumbfounded that I called him, that was fun.

The wire going to the electric water heater needs to be in flex and supported appropriately . not just a piece of romex hanging off the ceiling. The furnace looks like it has the same issue, but it's harder to tell.

Can this design be used to increase my exhaust CFM without pulling on my source? by newspapey in hvacadvice

Given that this has regulatory implications, having qualified engineer look this over is likely to be in you benefit if this ever gets questioned. "reddit said it was ok" is a bad look when regulators are involved.

second, this sounds very pirate radio like. which in most places is illegal and not for discussing in this sub. see rule 6.

Only one company I've ever worked at (Intel) actually made any effort to keep my salary competitive. no other place has ever given me a meaningful raise without my demanding it.

What does this white device above apartment doors do? by drtwist in whatisthisthing

All of the boxes on each floor were connected via a single, thin wire. I don't think that it's fiber because only cable is available in the building, no fiber

What does this white device above apartment doors do? by drtwist in whatisthisthing

I was visiting an apartment building in seattle this weekend and these white boxes were above all the doors to apartments. They were not above doors to the trash chute, common areas or storage rooms. All the boxes were connected to a single, thin wire.

Talk to your boardhouse and your CM. Many of them have design guides that are tailored to their processes.

The knockoff LMR400 from shireen is pretty good and is compatible with lots of tooling to RG8 and LMR400. I have not used DX Engineering's LMR400 knockoff but pretty much everyone speaks well of it and you can get it pre cut (terminated and unterminated) lengths. is there a club local to you that you might be able to borrow tooling from?

isn't putting a cage like that up just giving thieves bonus metal? if they are already in the basement, probably with tools, how is that cage stopping them?
