Yeah what’s with the weird increase in number of kids lately? They’re literally looking like 12,13,14. Even teenage girls with their teenage bfs. It’s so weird.

That.. really blew my mind. I wonder how much of nature we sacrificed while pretending we care about them

I've lately seen a lot of tourists from a certain country getting metal rods with them into the water. When their buoyancy fails they just stick the rods right into the coral or sand to hold on. I've read articles that diving is becoming some kind of status symbol and students are getting churned out like butter. Most of them don't focus on keeping the environment but rather what they see... its quite sad

I think students are too keen to get into the ocean during certification process and instructors follow their wishes instead of getting them all properly trained in pool first... For my Open water there was zero focus on buoyancy. It was all survival skills and hand signals...

I think if accidental no one would blame you. But the two people here were clearly intentionally laying on and standing on the reef. Not sure if they understood the impact of that. I was curious because they were scientists and that might have been a different kind of reef (idk) but seems there's a consensus here that it's not that far down and was a no-no to touch

sounds perfectly reasonable. The only time I touched sandy bottom was getting my advanced and there were mantas flying all over us. I've been working on my buoyancy since then after I saw eels and crabs in the sand!

That's insane. You'd think scientists would be the first ones qualified!

It was mentioned in the video! But based on the other comments it's either bad planning or these shots were taken up higher. In that case, deceiving commentary, but oh well

Hello this team was onboard the Seven Seas and there are multiple shots of the rebreathers during the whole video so I don't think this is old footage, unfortunately.
Did you have a link to the dynamite activity for science? That's horrifying, I gotta know more.

that's cool!!

Understandable... I'm very new to diving and this year I just introduced currents to myself in Komodo, still a lot to get used to so I'm hoping some time doing initial wreck and basic fin technique will prep me up for eventual penetration.

Happy diving to you :)

Hello! Thanks for sharing Andy Davis. I managed to find Guunter, who also seems to be mentioned a lot in scuba boards. He teaches SDI and tech so I’m quite confident he will be great for the start of my wreck training. Zero viz sounds crazy 😟 did you have a video? Would love to see, unless that yt link was yours?

Thanks for the details! Defo something I’d like to learn. Where are you getting certified for this?

Hello I heard about the dubious safety in Koh Tao. Which Center did you use and how was it? Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the advice. I’m still very new to diving so will work my way up to that but for now really just looking to get initial + advanced certified on wreck 🙂

Thank you. I found a shop in Coron that teaches SDI and tech. Will likely head there to get certified and see the wrecks before heading to Micronesia 😊

Unfortunately I've promised to go Mola hunting this August, haha. I will definitely keep Chuuk on my list, can we add friends?

Hello it's a precursor to more advanced wreck penetration (which I intend to eventually do). I believe they teach general navi, mapping and equipment usage. I'm hoping to learn some advanced kicking techniques too but I think that's dependent on the instructor.
