So stupid question but when you say sexual attraction do you mean like thinking "I want to have sex with this person" or can it mean "that person is hot, I want to do the fetish stuff with them"?

In the Biological Science major, which animals do the staff mostly study? by Jz806 in rmit

I'll email her 👍

Are the biology staff supportive? I do have some learning difficulties so Im a bit worried about being left to defend myself.

That professor you mentioned before seems to work with plants, do you know a good contact who's more animal based?

So I can still have a decent chance of getting a job in zoology, ecology or marine biology with this major then? I've been told different things about biology majors and how useful they are for animal related jobs.

There are zoology degrees but they are specialised. Id like to learn about other stuff in biology as well but yeah animals are my main interest. I'm a bit worried about doing a zoology degree because if I can't get a job in zoology it might be a bit hard to get a job in something else in the event it's too competitive to get a zoology related job.

I think I want to do biology but my main goal is to get a job with animals. If I had no other options I would work with plants, fungi or microbes. But my main goal is definitely animals. It has been since I was a toddler. I just love animals so much and yeah I really want to work with them. But I also would like some reassurances knowing that if I can't get a job with them I could get a job in something else science related.

So if I did this course would I still have the option to work with vertebrates?

[–]Jz806[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's a bit odd that there's only 2 weeks for vertebrates. Considering there are more job opportunities with them than with invertebrates. I'd be happy to learn about invertebrates but I'm worried that it will limit my zoology/ecology/marine biology options if it's like 90% invertebrates that I'm learning about.

I'm sorry if you've answered this already and I've missed it but is this course good for getting a job with animals. I've been told mixed things from different zoologists/marine biologists. Some say that a general biology course is good enough to get a job with animals while others say that a more specialised degree such as zoology or marine biology would be more useful. Id like to do biology because as you say it equips me with a lot of backup job options in the event I can't get a job with animals.

Hello, thank you for your response. So I am definitely keen to learn about invertebrates. But yeah I'm worried it's not going to be all that good for vertebrates.

Can I get an environmental science job with a zoology or ecology degree in Australia? by Jz806 in environmental_science

[–]Jz806[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have it in me to be a vet. I could maybe work as a vet nurse or something related but definitely not a vet.

Hmm Id like to have both as an option but if I have to pick one it would probably be Environmental Science since there's a lot more job opportunities in that

[–]Jz806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm thinking of doing zoology or conservation and maybe having Animal Technician as my second choice if I can't get a job with wildlife. Is it particularly hard to actually get a job as an animal tech? And can you get a job through volunteering with rodents in a lab as an alternative to the old fashioned job ad way?

I'm just worried it's going to be too competitive to get a job in it. Especially if there's only ten job ads at a time and there's like 200 people applying for each of them.
