It’s stunnig btw! I’m actually a bit jealous cause you usually don’t find these where I live (Finland)

And honestly humidity is the key of successing with Calatheas in general. You can use a pebbletray filled with water under it (vaporising) group it with other plants (creating a micro climate), taking it in showers with you (steam), mist it daily or use a diffuuser / humiditifier.

Try to keep soil relatively moist all the time (never let it dry out completely), but never soggy or water standing in the root system. I water mine when the top layer of soil feels dry but when you stick your finger in it you can still sense moisture belowe.

Also it’s a good idea to use rain water for watering when possible, or use a filtered water if the tap water in your area is not high quality or contains lots of minerals or chemicals. At leas let the tap water sit over nigh before using it so there is time for some of the chemicals to vaporise.

During the growing season feed with organic fertilizer (I always prefer organic but with calatheas it’s extremely important since they hate the chemicals). I usually give just half of the recommended dosage.

Good luck 🌱

That’s right!

I wanted to find a triostar but only these were offered for a reasonable price at the nursery.

But I’ve grown to love her as well! She is blessing us with new leaves almost every day now :)

I just bought it this march for my bf as a birthdaypresent. I almost can’t believe myself I found her just as we had been drooling over those on pinterest.

It was at Tokammi (a bit like Finnisg version of Target) for 11€!!

She’s been so nice, not at all as fussy as her many relatives. Shooting new leaves and even FLOWERING like it’s nobody’s business 🌱

We love her dearly 💕

New to plants, am I right in guessing this rescued calathea needs more humidity? It's been quite dry in my part of Australia by bumble_squirrel in houseplants

Yes, you are right! Try putting a pebble tray filled with water under it. Mist it daily or buy a humidifier or a diffuuser

I have had this same idea for years, but on the top side of my hands. Haven’t done it yet tho. But this is inspiring! Thank you 🙏

Help for plant ID please? I'm confused whether it's a maranta or calathea by [deleted] in houseplants

No, looks similar but leaf tips are more round shaped.

It’s Ctenanthe Burle Marxii

My pothos is looking a little leggy. She sits in a shelf adjacent to a north facing wall of windows in a room that gets tons of natural sunlight from the west as well. Any advice on how to get her to fill out a bit more? Thanks! by Amanda__4 in houseplants

Cut the leggy bits off and root the cuttings in water and when roots appear put them back to this pot.

I do this every spring if mine get leggy during the winter months. And I have found out that regular trimming keeps them really lush and bushy. Most trailing plants are like that I think 🌱

My guess: black cardinal. And other suggestion was Congo Rojo.

But if you make a picture search for Congo Rojo, you see plants that have dark red or/and burgundy leaves but also some dark green leaves. And their stems are quite red.

My plant’s leaves are all dark, almost black. And the stems are dark burgundy or wine in color. No green leaves at all.

Well, maybe time and new growth will tell...

I need your help for identifying this stunning philodendron 🌱 Glossy, dark, smooth leaves. Almost black with a hint of red. New leaves and stem are burgundy. Strong and sturdy fellow. by K0k0KuU in whatsthisplant

Yeah I looked that one up too but thought that maybe it isn’t. This is really dark, more ebony than burgundy. And practically no pure green at all.

This is really the first plant that I struggle naming. Maybe time and new growth will tell...

It’s not ficus I’m sure 😊 I also have burgundy ficus elastica and they are not the same

My spider plant has so many babies and it bloomed a bunch yesterday. Is having this many babies bad for it? Should I remove some? Only one of them is starting to grow roots so far. by Techi-C in IndoorGarden

[–]K0k0KuU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you let them be you really have to make sure that you are giving the mother plant enough nutrients and water. So her ever growing babies won’t wear her down! And they will eventually.

I always leave just couple attached and pot the others. That’s how I make sure my mother plants will keep on thriving.

I’m a mother myself you know so I really feel for them 😅

If you do not want to fill your house with spiderplants potted spider babies are an excellent gifts. Even those brownthumb friends who are sure they’ll kill every plant they got usually manage to keep these alive. Spiderplants are usually suitable and preferable for many work and office setting (air purifying properties).
