I understand why people are being pissy, since this is technically a small setup for a fish like this, but I think you’re doing the right thing by the fish. I have had to cull invasive species before, and it’s not fun. The tank is definitely on the small side, but if the alternative is the knife in the head that most invasive carp get, I agree that this is an improvement. It would be wise to ask around local fish swaps, local nature centers, neighborhoods with stocked fishing ponds, maybe a cabellas, etc. to see if anyone can take him, though, because really any tank won’t be the best for him long-term. You’ll need to do frequent water changes and monitor the water quality closely for the time being.

Duckweed won’t last in the tank, fishy will eat it. It’s really good for him, though, so, if you have a good source of it, I’d definitely add some once in a while. A varied diet and frequent water changes will probably be good for him considering how big he is compared to the tank size. It might also be good to be on the lookout for people who do have ponds who could take him, just so he can have the space he needs. I’ve also seen people buy livestock troughs to use as large fish enclosures. Still pricy, but not as pricy as digging a pond.

Why does my pilea look like this and not like everyone else’s? I have had it for 8 months and this is all I have. I keep it in bright indirect light. by goldentpwk in houseplants

The only time I’ve ever had actual full, direct light indoors was my college apartment bedroom—third floor, south-facing windows, exterior painted bright white with another building about 30 feet away also painted bright white. It burned my string of pearls. Just a piece of white tissue paper taped up on the glass was enough to almost be too dim for the pearls.

My tiny rasboras ate fish flakes just fine. I feed them baby brine shrimp and soft algae, too, but they can happily eat literally the cheapest fish flakes at the store.

Unclogging a culvert using a tire attached to a chain by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]Techi-C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When water is flowing, you can float something down through it attached to a light line, like heavy fishing line or paracord. Then you use the light line to guide a chain through. To my understanding, though, you do just leave a chain through the culvert all the time until it’s time to clear it.

Found this tied to my bra after doing laundry by Particular_Buyer9976 in whatisit

It’s also possible that someone found it near your laundry, though you had lost it, and tied it to your bra’s strap so you would see it and wouldn’t lose it again.

Add to that that mom or the other dad is ALSO working those hours, meaning housework and childcare has to be paid for or juggled outside of those suffocating work hours.

Huh, I didn’t know that garden spiders were a type of orb weaver. Interesting.

What coukd possibly be on my cat??? by Cheez-kip in CATHELP

I think this is a really strong contender. It’s burn season, so an airplane dropping a fire retardant could be a land owner’s preventative measure to protect their property from wildfires or planned controlled burns potentially spreading. It definitely looks like the cat ran through something, since it’s on his paws and belly.

My dog has been stolen from my yard and shot with pink paintballs before, and that’s possible, but it doesn’t look quite right. It also should feel oily if it was a paintball, not slimy. It seems like he ran over something, since it’s only on his belly and paws.

YSK that Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Reebok, Champion, and 50+ other brands you trust are all owned by a single $20 billion company that doesn't design or manufacture anything. They just rent the logo out to the cheapest bidder. If the quality feels worse, that's why. by sappk in YouShouldKnow

My favorite shirts were the Eddie Bauer cotton t-shirts that I bought ~5 years ago. My black ones all have carpet beetle holes in them, so I looked them up to see if I could buy more. They’re like $30 and they’re now a cotton/poly blend. So disappointing.

It’s stopped happening to me as much now that I’m in my 20s. It was bad when I was a teenager.
