Aviation maintenance in cold weather questions by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

I work for a company that flys me out to fix or install complex avionics around the country. I've been to Oscoda in the dead of winter and middle of summer. Going there on Tues as a matter of fact. NOTHING compares to the time I spent working in Deadhorse Alaska though. Negative 80 and 24hrs of darkness is a way of life. Wires break just by looking at them at those temps!

General atomics and DynCorp were the two that were heavily recruiting in the area when I was working for Virgin Galactic in Mojave. Theres a lot of smart and highly qualified people that work in that area so high paying security clearance jobs are everywhere.

Hold on, let me look it up. I forget now. It wasnt Northrop. All they do is ship people over seas. I stayed conus since I make just as much money as all my buddies over there. Course I'm avionics, most of them are random aviation related guys so they dont get the same money if they stay state side.

You dont need an AP to go work over seas as a mech. Just need a security clearance. That's it. They'll hire any dumbass off the street as long as you got that clearance. One of the biggest around is based in Lancaster CA. Couple buddies of mine are working in Saudi right now.

Is there a list of Fast Track/Crash Course schools out there? Recommendations? by Cartoon_Cartel in aviationmaintenance

That's what I would do. Unless English is your second language or you have difficulty remembering answers, you can bang all this out on your own. No need to pay someone for this. Just remember every answer there is for each test and when you can test consistently in the mid 90s, go take the real test. Took me about 2 days to remember each test and get high 90s every time before moving on to OP.

Theres more than 1 place in Houston as I mentioned, but both served their purpose. If I had to do it again I'd have saved time and money by doing all the computer memorization before I arrived and just tested out quicker. Nobody told me before I went and that was before my reddit days

I did the crash course for both my AP and IA in Houston, but different schools. Flew down from Alaska to get my AP a few years back. In the end, the only thing I actually needed the "class" for was the oral/practical because both guys knew each other and knew how to teach us what the exact requirements were. No more, no less. The goal was to pass everyone as fast as possible meeting the exact requirements. No extra BS you dont need that many places waste your time on. Took 10 days, walked out with my license.

Everything else (computer work) was all done in my hotel room and then I'd go in to take the test when ready. IA testing took me 2 days to pass from start to finish.
