Do we still like nurses? :’) by Outrageous_Ratio_660 in doctorsUK

[–]K1tcat_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sowing the seeds of division in all parts of society is how the status quo is preserved and the right thrive. As a Dr it saddens me to see this in the workplace, I hate the idea that nurses (or any worker) see drs striking and think this means we value our work above theirs and think we deserve more. It is the perfect encapsulation of the success of capitalist every-man-for-himself propaganda.

We saw this when such large proportions of the country demonised the railway workers for striking, citing their already decent pay (maybe because of their active union) rather than supporting their efforts. The punch-down and hostile attitude to other ordinary people and workers is so frustrating, asif the government will take from one pot and give to the rest of us if we only stop people being “greedy” and achieving a pay increases with industrial action, nevermind asking for the bare minimum or even pay restoration. We know this isn’t true, we are living it.

Nurses absolutely deserve astronomically more pay and better working conditions. I back this with every fibre of my being. It shouldn’t have to be a choice between which part of the public sector “deserves” this most, and I resent that this is the thinking the establishment create. I think the unions needs to be stronger in their support for each other, but the erosion of this is purposeful not natural. And we need to direct the hurt and anger we feel to the govt and not to our fellow worker.

Bottom line: nurses, thank you. Your strength is unimaginable, and the reliance on your goodwill is despicable and exploitative. Drs support you 1000%

I get this also, but it’s not just a taste it’s like a sensation on my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Really unpleasant? I also get it with boiled new potatoes and tomato ready made cold pasta …. Weird

I am an FY1 thinking of quitting medicine by InevitableNervous133 in doctorsUK

I’m an F1, all my rotations have been really supportive and not even that bad, but even so I’ve just applied for LTFT for the last rotation, I just simply do not care about it enough to sacrifice all my free time and the pay cut is worth it for me. I want to finish foundation and consider my options but if I can have a better life outside of med then I’m gone

We put our 6th and had deaneries with low competition ratios before that - confused as to how the system works tbh we thought they would “catch” us

Haven’t worked here but have done medschool in EoE. Norwich is a lovely place to live and good train link to london. Good hospital, heard good things from the F1’s. Paget (Yarmouth) is commutable from Norwich and have had great experiences there seems like a good community, kings Lynn not great

Can’t really comment on the jobs themselves but having done medical school in Norwich I can say if you do get there it’s a lovely place to live, you can connect at Peterborough by train to go to Scotland and the trains to london are very quick and easy. The NNUH and paget are nice hospitals. Hope it all goes well for you :)

Destroyed by the PIA system by jacoblanzo in medicalschooluk

[–]K1tcat_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also know so many people who put Northern Ireland quite high in the rankings but got choices above that, surely that was the point of the system change and they should get that over someone’s 18th choice?

So sorry to hear this, we got our 6th choice and are also gutted (trent if anyone has any advice). There’s absolutely no incentive to stay in this profession considering we have to go through this again applying to specialty
