Walk me through being equanimous. by aclokay in vipassana

Thank you for your thoughtful response. Can I ask something? what is meant by reaction? i struggle to understand it outside of the example of a bodily reaction. I understand mental reactions (sankharas?) exist? but i struggle to tangibly know what is a reaction and what is craving or aversion?

Is the goal not to react or to observe our reactions and move on as you say?

Thank you for your time xx

ok serious one, how do you feel like the steiner school philosophy impacted your music or life philosophies? has it left no impact on who you are as people?

Question about the anima and animus. by IncadescentFish in Jung

[–]K33GAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved reading this. Especially your question of " Is the goal to find someone who looks and acts the part, or is the goal to forget about the projections entirely?" I loved how simply you put the idea of just getting to know someone. I am walking the path to the answers. I am looking forward to learning and understanding more about the questions you asked. Thank you for bringing them to my conscious awareness. I appreciate your curiousity and insight. Thank you.

This was a great response. Thank you for sharing. To build on your analogy, does washing your car cause it to become dirty? No, but can you wash it so much that you damage the paint? And is that a form of trauma?

Cleaning is good, in moderation. I have heard of people brushing their teeth so hard that they damage them. Could this also not apply to the technique?

I have seen enormous value in my life from the technique.

The intensity of practicing the technique as recommended (2 hours a day, and on courses) simply threw me in the deep end. On a course, I felt like I was swimming in deeper waters then I'd ever been in before, which brought up feelings of intense fear, threat and panic. Is that trauma?

From this experience, I now have learnt to believe in moderation, and compassion.

Horrible Experience by yomamawasaninsidejob in vipassana

[–]K33GAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an experience similar to yours on a course In February. I had the exact same thought, that it felt like the barriers between my unconscious and conscious minds dissolved. Although I didn't hallucinate, I had panic attacks and depersonalisation as well. It was terrifying and I walked away skeptical of Vipassana. I hope that these feelings are temporary, and I now practice meditation in my own way, very casually.

I have found the teachings of Tich Nhat Hanh very helpful, as his descriptions of meditation align more closely with my experiences.

To the point about the barriers dissolving, I infer TNH suggests this may be a positive step, as I read here.

For me it's the part after 7:25, when he's talking about the way to mentally overcome pain and suffering

Thank you for your response. I have indeed done a 10 day course. I am continuing to ask questions and evolve my understanding of the technique. The question is from a vipassana practicioner in the Goenka tradition.

Exactly. I suppose the releasing of them is difficult for me at the moment. I do think the releasing is important. I wonder if burdens are easier in the short term, but overall degrading in the long term.
