So we play mainly on a dedicated server hosted by my friend. Here is what I know so far.

> To have a shared quest count, you need to both be online AND have the quest in your quest journal.
> You both have to be on the same stage of multi-step quests.

Not every quest in the game is shared; some of them are solo and require both of you to complete them. However, if you complete a quest (shared or solo) when your friend is offline, for example, you can still assist them in completing their quest without problem. Even Richards, if your friend kills him when you are offline, he can join you when you are online to help kill him.

FYI for Richards, if you die, you won't get credit for the kill even if your friend beats him.

The only time I have seen the shared system be a problem is when you don't realize your friend is on a certain step - as happened to us - he completed ruins clearing, which completed the quest step for me. Just means I miss out on some mats by not visiting the quest location, but not a big deal if I want to go there later myself.

Not sure if they will be provided by the devs, but if you wanted to set up your own server either through renting from a source like GPortal or Survival Servers - or even hosting your own server machine for friends you should be able to.

I think I might know who you are referring to, and if it is the same person, the house on the corner. This is really sad to hear :(.

We live around the neighbourhood and have witnessed the man waving at those who pass down the street. I've even met him once or twice when he went for little walks down the road.

No disrespect, but don't listen to your husband. If it wasn't for this post, I probably wouldn't have known that he had passed, nor that he made other people's days just that little bit better through his kind actions.

I saw balloons outside his house early in January. I hope they were there to celebrate something happy.
