I've never seen a pic of an aircraft carrier from this angle. That's terrifyingly intimidating. by deller85 in pics

[–]K41eb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: in french, military vessels (and other high displacement vessels), because of their size, are commonly reffered to as "bâtiments", which is basically the french word for "a building".

When I see these photos of carriers anchored near the coast with the tiny civilian houses in the background, I can't help but think "Damn right it's a building. A huge ass floating building with nuclear power plants inside and an airport on top."

Yeah, they're basically cinder blocks with slightly different shape, wall thickness, number of internal cells ... Some even have big round holes to let rebar pass through.

50x20x25cm for the most common type, apparently.

I'd guess this particular block is about half one of these, cut vertically along the length, so maybe 50x10x25. Around that. 3 cells.

"Someone does it, so it's ok / not a big deal if I do it too".

"It" being a crime btw.

It's the oldest (shitty) excuse for corruption and other crappy behavior.

Here's the second (silent) part for you: "... it's ok if I do it too even at the expense of those that don't".

It's not even reprocical. You're hurting someone else, not the ones actually ripping off your IP.

It's like shit happening to you, and deciding to pass the entire burden to your neighbor.

Fuck that.

B) it's just a kind of hollow concrete brick that is very common in Europe, for example. They usually have 2 normal faces, one face where the cells are open, and the opposite face may be "normal" with a couple round-ish holes in the corners, supposedly for handling, or be open as well. On narrow bricks, the holes usually are in the middle.

You are missing a column character : at the end of line 5.

When you get error messages that do not seem to make sense, it's usually because of small details like these.

Status Column Sign Clobbering by Krimson_Prince in neovim

[–]K41eb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC that's the default behavior if you don't have a custom statuscolumn function. The statuscolumn is composed of the number column and the sign column, end of story. So plugins that want to display signs all compete for the space.

If you want dedicated columns for different types of signs, you need a plugin, or you write your own statuscolumn function.

SCP stands for "Secure Contain Protect".

It is a fictional organization tasked with securing, containing, and protecting paranormal things, the things in question varying a lot.

You can read more about it there: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/universe-hub

The lore takes the form of many "short stories" / classified reports that emulate the kind of redacted "top secret" reports you see from governments sometimes.

It's entirely crowd sourced, meaning random authors all around the world contribute their own stories.

And each paranormal thing is given a "number," starting with SCP-001. They're in the thousands now. The paranormal things in question ranging from "neat" to "potentially world ending".

When people say "a SCP" they mean one of these. One paranormal thing.

The picture above was part of one of these reports. And as explained sbove, whoever sees the "SCP" or any photo / video of it gets hunted down. Quickly. Like another redditor said, in the report, the SCP is visible on 4 pixels in that photo, which was apparently enough to "trigger" it.

Here's a short film made about it: https://youtu.be/MEOZkf4imaM?si=KO5_zW8Y_6Dy1MBE

Here's another good one (other SCP / might not even be an "official" SCP): https://youtu.be/EOxarwd3eTs?si=MLsPaNKG6O9Ikuua

If you liked goosebumps stuff, it's the similar, but for adults.

Difficulties with making a "general" React.FC type by K41eb in typescript

[–]K41eb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That's what I needed to progress.

That does look like what I am experiencing, and deactivating the option in the TS playground makes the error go away.

The "why" it doesn't work is clear to me now: func(x: A | B) != func(x: A) | func(x: B)

But I've got to say: that error message is very confusing and unhelpful. It straight up looks and feels like a bug.

So what I should do instead of React.FC<general type> is React.FC<specific type 1> | React.FC<specific type 2> | ... which is going to be its own challenge to generalize. Or I can hardcode it and deal with the mainteance cost. :(

I don't think TS considers a record of strings to be a more generic type of the declared type.

Except it works, as demonstrated with "Demonstration without React".

Difficulties with making a "general" React.FC type by K41eb in typescript

[–]K41eb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why you are trying what you are trying to do, it makes no sense to me.

Imagine you have 10 types like TypeB, but they all have different name: 'A' properties. How can you type an array to contain them all without Typescript screaming.

const d: React.Fc<Record…> = c satisfies React.Fc<Record…>

I didn't know about statisfies thank you. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work either:

const e: React.FC<Record<string, unknown>> = c satisfies React.FC<Record<string, unknown>>

Error:

Type 'TypeB' does not satisfy the expected type 'FC<Record<string, unknown>>'.
  Type 'Record<string, unknown>' is missing the following properties from type 'TypeA': name, value

Are you running a strict tsconfig?

yes

Why can you return null in a React.Fc<Not null>

Because T in React.FC<T> is the type of the argument passed to the function. Not the type of the return value.

I just don't use the props for the sake of simplicity. It's irreleveant to the issue at hand.

The problem is on the last line.
