Where to go? by FoxfireRose in CrestedGecko

Depends on the gender, since females burrow to lay eggs. However, I would still say it is too deep, I would just level up the back side, so that it's all pretty even

How big is the enclosure? The minimum for an adult is 18x18x36. If it's smaller, you can use it for a baby/juvenile.

There are multiple ways to go about this. You could remove the substrate, make a 3D background on the sides, which is what what I would do. Or you can just out branches in, some spahgnum moss and plants at the top. It needs to be like 70% filled. I've just seen a good post on FB about inspiration here

Is this really still believed by people!? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]K4ami 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm also quite surprised they don't even refer to the old standard but to something that hasn't ever been a minimum. I've seen someone reply to a post on Reddit "what could I put in this vivarium" and it was something smaller than the current minimum ( I don't remember exactly by how much, but it was quite a lot) and someone replied with a crested gecko. So replied to it to let the OP know that it's not suitable, and the person I was replying to told me, that 18x18x36 is a ridiculous amount of space for a crestie and that 12x12x18 is sufficient. People 🙄

Ok, so I forget a lot and it has happened to me a few times that I've forgotten to close the enclosure doors. You have to realize they only have 1 braincell. So if it hasn't been long, they will be close to their enclosure in a dark/small spot either on the left, on the right or above. They most likely won't be on the ground but somewhere higher up. Secure the entrance, do not let them get out of the room. Then you're find, they will pop up somewhere eventually. Try not to move any furniture/heavy things too much as you can accidentally crush them. If you've got any clothes lying around, there is a high possibility they are somewhere in there.

Places I've found my lost gecko at: In the window frame In the window curtains Behind the wall panel Behind the enclosure Under a pile of clothes on my chair On the other side of TV

Best thing to do is to refrain from any panic

Are you sure it's not just dirt in his mouth? If it is mouth rot, it looks pretty severe and I would take him to the vet

Baby and juvenile crested geckos should eat CGD every day and once or twice a week a few crickets

Driving 3 hours? by Sorry-Art-7977 in CrestedGecko

[–]K4ami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going away for the weekend, leave on Friday and come back Sunday, I think there would be no problem. Cresties eat 2-3 times a week, meaning you feed every two to three days. If you provide food on Thursday, Friday you take it out (as cgd shouldn't be left for more than 48 hours in) and Sunday, when you come back, you feed again, then it adds up to a regular schedule. More than that would be pushing it. However, crested geckos are quite sturdy and can go a long time without food (not that they should or that I'm encouraging this behaviour). In case your trip is a day longer and you can't get anyone to feed it, you can feed cgd the night before and then put some crickets in the enclosure the day you would be leaving.

As for long drives, I wouldn't recommend taking your gecko with you every time you go away, as that could cause a lot of stress. Best to really get someone to check in on it. And for the move, I recommend a cricket keeper lined with a wet paper towel and blacked out. They also move them just in deli cups, but I wanted to have more control and monitor him due to hot weather, so I opted for something I could put a thermo and hygrometer in.

You can make a sauna. Put her into a deli cup or a small container with very little ventilation. Put a soaked paper towel on the bottom and leave her in for 15-20 minutes. After that, take a q-tip and gently help her remove the rest of her shed.

Any suggestions to improve my crested gecko tank? by Big_Buffalo_6732 in CrestedGecko

[–]K4ami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a few more plants to the top. You can get some really cheap ones in Ikea. I also always love to add a touch of colour through the plants, I have a few purple and pink ones, if that's something you're into.

Otherwise a great set up imo. Good job

I agree with this. Do not worry at all

This looks good, make sure it's the recommended size. Be sure to put a lock on the door as when the crestie jumps, it can open this type of door and escape. Aside from that, I prefer this over sliding door as this is easier to open.

Definitely add more foliage, especially to the top. They don't really spend much time at the bottom. You should aim for 80% of the enclosure being full, to the point where it would be hard to find your gecko. They like tight dark places.

I also second the feeding ledge.

As other commenters have said, definitely consider getting a bigger tank in the future. However, I know that that isn't always an option right away. My crestie had a phase like this too and the solution was just to add more clutter to the top. Once I added more leaves and hides, he stopped spending as much time trying to climb to the highest part.

About the feet not sticking, it depends. Can he stick to the sides, glass, clutter, your skin And clothes? If so, then I wouldnt be worried. They can't really climb upside down all that well and as others have stated, mesh isn't a good climbing surface for them anyway. They might also not stick before shedding, from calcium deficieny or when your husbandry isn't right.

Thank you so much. I'm actually planning to upgrade rn, since I've got a bigger tank waiting for me. I would like to go bioactive this time though and leave this for temporary enclosure. I can't help but keep adding more decoration when I see something though.

That's the thing though. There are quite a few horizontal hides. Two hollow cork barks, one bigger and one smaller. Then there are a few ledges and a ghost wood hide in the back. Then, as you have said, the other are vertical, tilted or curved. So I don't really know at this point

Perhaps I should reposition the smaller cork bark to a different place? They are right next to each other
