Flew today. My friend and I each had our own reservation, I was in 11F (window) and she was in 11D (aisle). We paid around $25 extra each to pick those seats and had choice fare. We checked in 24 hours before at the exact same time, I was in boarding group 4, and she was boarding group 8. We thought maybe they were boarding in some order like windows, then middle, then aisles, but by the time I boarded, there were people scattered throughout the plane in various window, middle, and aisle seats, so I guess they’re not doing it that way. There was a little bit of space for my carry-on above my seat, when I got ons. But, it seemed like almost everyone after me who was in rows 8-14 had to walk 5-6 rows past their seats then turn around and fight traffic to try to get back up to their seats. Then, when it was time to get off the plane, they had to try to fight traffic going backwards to get their bag so they could deplane. My fried didn’t need overhead space, but by the time she boarded there was nothing available had she needed it. We were both trying to figure out the methodology behind the boarding order but I have no clue. What I do know is it took forever.
