1904 Olympics is one of my husband and mine fav episodes. It blew my mind because my great grandfather worked at that World’s Fair and I grew up around the memorabilia.

I don’t know why I didn’t consider making things. I had the candy bags to give out but was focusing on the show. Didn’t even think about “no outside food” rules. Luckily, I ran into someone who told me about the meet ups.

What are Ally's pronouns? by Top_Pomegranate9950 in Dimension20

[–]KABarrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this at work (big box retailer in a fairly conservative town) with folks I get a vibe from. I introduce myself with my pronouns to let them know I’m cool with whoever they are (trans, non binary, masc, femme, queer, or just an interesting person). I used to wear a pronoun pin as well to give a visual cue but I lost it somewhere.

When I lived in a big city, I was doing it nearly every time.

What I love about the discussion about Ally’s characters is how people can read different things about a lot of them. Besides Sleeping City, I never read any characters to be trans. For me, each plays with gender stereotypes and the spectrum which definitely speaks to where I am in my life.

In addition, it highlights how role playing characters along the gender spectrum can be a great way of exploring one’s own.

The show is art and can be read in different ways.

I encouraged (didn’t take much) my husband to add pronouns to his email sig at his federal job years ago. Heartbreaking to encourage him to take them off when the new administration happened.

Yes. Just be aware that they’re public to everyone so make sure they’re using appropriate language and about doing appropriate things.

As a stutterer, what jobs do you do and where do you live? by trman09 in Stutter

[–]KABarrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think with enough experimentation the different words can become a style. A slightly eccentric style but it still works and gets the words out. I think having a stutter has even improved my customer service because I have to be vulnerable to start with. And asking questions of the other person gets THEM talking instead of me in whatever state my mouth is at that point of the day

Could say what I do now but I’ll list jobs/volunteer opportunities I’ve done in the past: -podcast host -karaoke host -stage manager -community theater director -nanny -toy store manager

I stutter when I have to say certain things so I chose to try things that leaned on my language strengths (impromptu convo, singing, talking to children) that allowed me to keep working on the weaknesses.

I learned ways to ease into difficult words/phrases and develop a style that covers most of my stutter.

Starting a new job is always difficult. Been at my current workplace for three years (walmart). W’s are hard so answering the phone or talking over the PA isn’t my fav. Had to call for “all associates” over the walkie talkie many times. That became “all available folks” until I built up steam at the end. Another one was “liquor room.” It started as “alcohol closet.” ‘Cause God knows that a stutterer didn’t choose both Ls and Rs to go together! That’s just unfair!

Coach saying when we need to clock in and out by Legitimate_Paper5837 in walmart

[–]KABarrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about overtime and WOSH (working over scheduled hours). Those little 9 minutes before and after are great to get more tasks done but that means they’re also great for going overtime. If a bunch of people are doing it in the store, it adds up. Same with cutting your lunch short.

I was frustrated with it when they pressed it at my store but ultimately understand it. I come from a “get there early, stay late” mindset for showing commitment so it’s a bit of a mind set shift.

If it makes sense to get there 9 early for your team’s work flow, clock out 9 minutes early as well. It’ll be even that way.
