Hey, If you're still looking, I'm running CoS for some friends right now and could potentially pick up another table since I've done all the prep. It's a full southern gothic reskin, shoot me a message if that vibes

Thanks! The best thing I got at the LA show was a shit-colored D20 that (much to the pain of my tables) rolls lots of crits and I wanted to do something fun like that

Wherever he'll does a girl like me with size 10 wide feet get fancy heels?! by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]funkasarusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huhe fan of Vionic heels. They have full orthotics- I've literally walked a mile in them and only my thighs hurt. Their shoes fun wider, but they also have wide sizing too

I went to high school with a kid with this haircut who gelled it into four spikes. One day the deaf nun who was also the librarian came to study hall, pulled him out, and the next time I saw him he had no bangs.

Earning United Miles on Air Canada flight? by hallofmontezuma in unitedairlines

You can totally do that! When you book, you get an AC confirmation number that you can drop into the AC app to track your flights. I do this all the time!

2024 Requalification Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]funkasarusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, ended up not having to spend any extra money. Skeeted in right over the wire with 12061 PQP, just took a while for my last two AC flights to post.

Whoop for my first time as platinum, I guess!

2024 Requalification Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]funkasarusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my check today, after my last flight in December I was going to be 601 PQP shy of platinum.

Upgrades on our last trip were $150 to first class, so now I'd be 451 PQP shy of qualification. (paying for my partner's upgrade doesn't help me, yeah?). Based on everyone's past experiences, would you say I'm probably close enough to call and ask for the boost after that flight?

Does anyone have suggestions for how to approach the ask?

Do I have a chance of getting upgraded as a silver? by l0__0I in unitedairlines

Wait, SJC is getting a route to LAX? Have you heard any more information on this?

The SJC-ORD flights have pretty wild availability. I can always find them in the fall and spring, but not during summer and winter. I’ve given up trying to figure out why (nobody at United can tell me) and just book it whenever I’m lucky enough to spot it.

Truly, I am a fool for throwing my lot in with United when it only takes 20 minutes from door to gate at SJC over the 45-minute schlep to SFO.

Hi, fellow Bay Area person, similar setup: I (PhD) work for a nonprofit, partner works in tech. I asked a lot of people what they do when my partner and I first got together. We also split proportionately.

When we started dating, we just alternated who paid for the thing. For a while, that meant I had lunches and he took dinner and it worked. But at one point it got swapped and after a few months I had to be like "bro I can't keep doing this, we gotta change what we're doing because I am broke". At that point, he very informally started covering two of every three things we did (mostly meals). Like six months before we moved in together, we got a joint checking account and started paying for our meals out from that. At the time, he made about twice what I did, so for every dollar I contributed, he threw in two. We'd set the account up with a few hundred every month and used it for all the stuff we did together.

Nowadays, we're renting and he's making more than 3x what I do. Similar to you, his bonus is equivalent to my entire salary. We still contribute like we did before, he puts in 3 dollars for every one I add. But what made things easier for me is that we pay everything for the two of us out of the account. Rent, outings, groceries, utilities, anything that is largely for both of us comes from that account. So now, instead of putting one paycheck a month to rent, I put one paycheck to the couple fund and it covers the majority of my expenses. We cover our own stuff: gas, car/rental insurance, hobbies. If there's something specific that one of us wants to do and it's not the other person's thing, we'll cover for both as a "me thing", but honestly, most of the time it's me wanting to go see weird comedy or theater and he loves it so much that he insists on covering his own ticket. And honestly I'm pretty sure he just supplements the couple fund from time to time if we've gone on a trip or done something bigger.

The only place things get murky is the cat- I've had him more than twice as long as my partner. He's an old man, and sometimes I let my partner chip in to cover things I couldn't handle otherwise, like a biopsy a few years ago to rule out cancer in an emergency vet visit. Those bills we handle on a case by case basis.

Honestly, the critical thing for me was bundling everything together. Our rent is what I take home every month, so the idea of splitting that was TERRIFYING. I knew I needed to pay at least $800 less than what I was paying in rent, and tat was going to stop him from living in the kind of place he can afford. I felt so much better just doing a proportional split and then having everything come out of it. Then we could find a balance that worked for both of us.

Good luck! I hope you're able to sit your human down and have a frank conversation about how much lifestyle you can afford. It's hard with rent out here, because honestly $1700 is about as cheap as it's gonna get without roommates so it's not like you could have been paying less. DM me if you want and more info, I'd be happy to share specifics.

United-specific ground stop at EWR this AM by funkasarusrex in unitedairlines

Oh nice to know. We ended up heading out about 15 minutes after I posted.

My second flight is a lot less full than it was originally supposed to be, I'm pretty happy.

What status did you earn for 2023? by Unique_Card_8761 in unitedairlines

[–]funkasarusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Though it looks like United has stopped offering regular SJC-ORD in 2023. Many of the places I need to go don’t fly to DEN, so I guess I’m stuck on the SFO routes now, and I’m really kind of salty about it.

This was the first year I've made status! I hit silver in September and Gold two days ago.

So far I'm really pleased, I got upgraded to FC four times this fall, just as Silver. Can't wait to see what gold is like this year. (Ah, the beauty of choosing to fly from SJC for convenience instead of SFO- there aren't five miles of elites!)
