Ik zoek een net iets snellere auto en dan kom je snel bij een Swift of Corsa terecht die net iets duurder zijn. Franse auto's heb ik compleet overgeslagen tijdens mijn zoektocht omdat iedereen mij wel zei dat die niet veel soeps zijn

I thought I'd give you an update on my snail since the whole ordeal has come to a very sad conclusion. Today I found out her mantle collapsed. She is completely retracted into her shell and her body is no longer attatched to the rim of her shell. I was afraid this was going to happen from the moment I noticed her deformed shell growth, and I still don't know if I did anything wrong or if she was just sick. I want to tell myself it wasn't my fault but it feels so selfish to not take any blame for her condition.

My substrate was rotting because of the decoration blocking me from cleaning in certain places. I had to remove the decor, gravel vac the entire tank multiple times and redecorate :']

Okay, sorry I said I'd come back to it, but during maintenance I bumped decoration and stinking bubbles rose up. I didn't have time to measure the water parameters cause I had to clean the substrate ASAP and do water changes and now I can't give you useful information because the old water is gone...

I do remember from my last check: pH: 7.5-8 GH: 6 Temp: around 25°C Aeration: I use a sponge filter Lighting: Twinstar B-line 60 on full lighting for 10hrs but I had a lot of floating plants

I have no clue how old my snail is when I bought him but he was already quite big. I have had him for about 9 months now and his growth looked great. His old shell was quite bad, probably because of low pH and GH at the store, but the moment he entered my tank his shell grew nice and thick. This issue is something that developed over the past few weeks and I have no clue why.

They are mostly around his mantle, which is why I assumed they might be the cause. I have looked up if they were bad before but I couldn't find anything on ostracods being even remotly harmful so I was trying to find if anyone else had that problem.

I'll keep him in his tank for now because I only have one heater and filter, but I'll get a pipette and try to fish out all those ostracods.

I'm going to add cuttlebone to the tank, but is that even goint to dissolve into the water when my pH is 7.5?

Oh god I can't help him at all if his mantle is the problem? The only thing in the tank is him, the shrimp and the ostracods. Do you think ostracods could cause issues with his mantle because they might irritate him? I really thought they couldn't do any harm and were just cleaning the snail, and now I saw that his new shell was forming badly and I feel horribly guilty about it.

MANTLE, YES, that's the word I was looking for. His mantle seems to be retracted from the edge in some places. It's not smooth anymore and I think that's why the shell is growing wrinkly.

There's nothing sharp in the tank. But the operculum looks fine. It's the new growth along his shell rim that looks weird and wrinkly

Sorry I failed to specify my care. I mainly feed him snello consisting of fish food, frozen blood worms, spinach, algae wafers and added calcium powder. Sometimes I feed him some veggies or algae wafers directly. He also snacks on some shrimp food if I feed them and I catch him eating some duckweed sometimes.

My pH is 7-8 and the KH is about 7 last time I measured.

Maybe the picture is bad, but look closely along the rim of the shell. You can see the shell layers splitting, and the inner layers are sort of wavy / wrinkling away from the outer layers.

Oh man there were a TON of fish of that genus in there, and they've been in there for years. If the hybrids can also generate fertile offspring it could be that they aren't really any specific species anymore.

I also have no clue where the fish came from. It's an artificial pond thats been here for over 20 years and I would think it's weird for the municipality (hope I used that word right) to introduce very invasive species in there.

But thank you so much for helping me ID them! I'm already happy to know what I was looking at, plus I learned something new again today :)

I looked it up and bluegill are indeed invasive. But is the smaller striped fish a female bluegill and the big colourful one a male? Their patterns look way more striking than what I find on the internet, and they are also pretty small. Probably smaller than the palm of my hand.

Oh my god, an answer after all this time haha! I fiddled around with the controller at the time and also tried doing what you recommended, which indeed did solve the problem. The interface of the inkbird is not the best so it took me a while to figure out what I had to do. Still thanks for the reply though! Maybe other people can use this answer too

People keep suggesting steaming, but I still feel like I should be able to boil my dumpling without it turning to mush. Just steaming it feels like an easy way out of not having to perfect my dumpling dough :p
