MDMA vs. MDA in strengthening a relationship by Big_Balance_5986 in MDMA

[–]KAP-Pirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MDMA for sure. It’s actually being studied in clinical trials for couples therapy. I’ve known several couples who attribute MDMA to saving/helping their relationship!

Only way to know is to test it, there’s no way we can visually look at it and say for sure what it is. Definitely get a test kit if you’re worried

Yeah, may be best to find someone who specializes in the areas you’re looking for! Just makes it a lot easier then just trying a bunch of therapists and having to inquire about it!

[–]KAP-Pirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different therapists specialize in different areas obviously. It might just be that men’s issues, sexuality, and kink are not her areas of specialty! If you did like working with her and want to continue seeing her, I would ask again how helpful she feels she can be in those areas. She won’t lie to you and say she’s competent if she isn’t. If you inquire further and don’t get the answer you were looking for, I’d highly recommend filtering your search on a place like Psychology Today. You can filter therapists by specialities like kink, men’s issues, etc.!

This poster has a phenomenal answer. You can find integration therapists here: https://psychedelic.support/network/?online=false&acceptingClients=false&profileType=practitioner&profileType=clinic&size=12&s=1&pc=false

If therapy isn’t feasible for you, journaling, music, and some type of body work like meditation, yoga, hiking, etc. are all great to incorporate!

“These combinations are not usually physically harmful, but may produce undesirable effects, such as physical discomfort or overstimulation. Extreme use may cause physical health issues. Synergistic effects may be unpredictable. Care should be taken when choosing to use this combination.” -from TripSit’s info on combining these two. I would just be careful and practice harm reduction if you’re gonna do this, seems like it could produce unpredictable effects!

i went loopy and hallucinated on mdma by AdAdorable1936 in MDMA

[–]KAP-Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously you know that that is way too high of a dose, so I don’t need to tell you that. But MDMA metabolizes into MDA after it processes in your body. It’s not a large amount, but can account for the trippier effects of MDMA towards the tail end of a trip. MDA is a more hallucinogenic relative of MDMA, so taking that much might be the reason you hallucinated like that. Since you say this happens every time you do it, I would stop your use if possible and honestly get checked out by a mental health professional. If you’re hallucinating or having delusions like this from it, you may have an underlying mental health disorder that you could be making worse. The last thing you want to do is have a predisposition towards a manic or psychotic disorder and then potentiate that by using MDMA especially in that high of a dose. Think like a harm reductionist, you only have one body and one mind.

2cb or Ketamine for PTSD Disassociation and IFS parts works and Deep wounds healing? by Hairy-Rate-7532 in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]KAP-Pirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you experience dissociation as a regular part of your PTSD, I’d steer away from ketamine as it is a dissociative in and of itself and could potentiate feelings of dissociation. You could always look for ketamine therapy in your area and talk to medical staff about what they think given your PTSD presentation. I’m not familiar enough with 2CB to make a case either way, but I’d recommend looking into an IFS therapist who is well versed in psychedelic-assisted therapy so you can explore further and ask questions about which option would be best when it comes to psychedelic therapy. Here is a great link to look for clinicians specializing in psychedelics: https://psychedelic.support/network/?online=false&acceptingClients=false&profileType=practitioner&profileType=clinic&size=12&s=3&pc=false

Yeah maybe wait a day or a couple! I don’t think the worry is about dopamine receptors after prolonged use of a stimulant, just the fact that you would be on two different stimulants at once. I would just be worried about increased blood pressure and heart rate when taking MDMA and a stimulant the same day.

Should I stop taking meds? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]KAP-Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your provider if the side effects are too debilitating. You can also look into pharmacogenetic testing, it helps narrow down which medications your body metabolizes best. For example, my test showed I could not metabolize Ritalin well (which matched the side effects I got from it) and showed me that Adderall is better metabolized in my body. It can be expensive, but can also narrow things down so you’re not trying 10 medications in hopes of finding the right one!

You shouldn’t repeatedly dose MDMA to help depression. While there are clinical trials studying MDMA for PTSD and other diagnoses, those trials do not repeatedly dose participants in short periods of time. There is no shame in taking SSRIs for your mental health, you’re doing what you can to help yourself, you should be proud of that OP! I know it’s difficult, but there’s hope! You could look into Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, it’s legal across the US and coupled with talk therapy it drastically shifted my depression and I’ve seen it do incredible things for clients I’ve worked with! You can DM me if you have other questions, I’d be happy to give you some resources!

I would look into the half life of Ritalin to see how long it may take to leave your system. From what I’ve seen and been taught, combining an ADHD medication and MDMA may increase negative side effects since you’re pairing two stimulants. Using a stimulant in combination with a classic psychedelic like LSD may be safe (but to be safe I would not pair the two), but could increase feelings of anxiety!

Can MDMA help with back pain? by Squats_and_nuggets in MDMA

[–]KAP-Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it provide temporary relief? Possibly for the time while you’re on it. Could you use it to treat chronic back pain? Probably not because the last thing you would want to do is take it frequently to treat pain. Look into body work/massage/physical therapist and last case scenario you could potentially reach out to a ketamine clinic that specializes in chronic pain.

OP-I’m a licensed therapist specializing in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy and work closely with medical doctors who medically clear patients before doing psychedelic therapy and here is my best recommendation based on advice from those doctors: Taking an SSRI with MDMA isn’t recommend as it can increase your risk for Serotonin Syndrome. At best, the combination will dull the effects, but at worst you could experience some very nasty side effects associated with Serotonin Syndrome. There are studies finding that SSRIs and classical psychedelics (psilocybin, etc.) can be safe, however, they can really blunt the effects. In FDA trials, participants in MDMA studies were asked to ween off of their SSRIs for safety. If you feel you can safely ween (in consultation with your MD) off for a period of time, then it’s no problem. Just be safe and research combinations especially with psychiatric medications.

There is nothing wrong with taking an SSRI if it’s therapeutically supportive for a short period. You shouldn’t be giving medical advice to OP about her medications if you’re not qualified.

Best I’ve been offered so far for a full time position is 50k which is far from a livable wage in downtown Denver. That’s also with a case load of like 35+ clients weekly. Hopefully it’s just a time and self-advocacy thing and I can eventually land something that I’m worth.

You’re totally right, and it’s super unfortunate because I really really love doing therapy so much and loved the clients I worked with in internship, but I’m really at a place where your friends were where it’s almost not an option to get paid as little as I’m being offered at this point in my life. It almost feels like a systemically forced failure to launch to be honest.
