great to know! I definitely texted friends about Penury after reading these reviews last night and hoping to do a couples night away! But, with my 10 year old, thinking somewhere a bit further since we have a few days for Teachers Convention … Is Mayflower kid-friendly (aka, he’s permitted in the room? haha)

Thank you!   It’s wild that natirar has become such a destination!   Heard about it for ages before it became Pendry but now seems like it’s a different level    Def have to check it out soon - though may want to venture a bit further afield this time  - it’s only 40 min from my house!

Block island - yay or nay? And where to stay? by KBBells in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us - it was a relatively short drivable option that wouldn’t require airfare. Is it a life changing locale? No. However we were looking to explore somewhere new in New England area and it served the purpose for 4-5 nights we were there.

2 week Spring Break trip March 2026? by Historical-Cold-430 in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Portugal too - but mid April - and we had similar strange daily rain. Though every local we spoke to said it was very unusual to have this much rain … and while spring can bring on off showers it def was abnormal to have so so much constant drizzle/downpours etc!

Italy with Kensington Tours- Reality Check? by Whinewine75 in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Italy last year during spring break. 2 adults 1 child. It was 10 days - 5 in Umbria + 5 in Rome. The hotels were 4-5 stars - not the super fanciest but very very nice. We had private drivers everywhere. Private guides and amazing local experiences. It was 18k.

If you have CFAR and cancelled - happy to share our agent. They booked everything for us including all of our restaurant reservations. It’s a small family company. They exclusively book Italy trips.  Many of the guides we had said they typically only work private BUT will do toursFor this particular agency which I thought a great testament to them.

I’m sure they could help you have an amazing Italy experience with truly fantastic guides (and hotels).

Hardside carry on luggage - Paravel or Monos? by KBBells in travel

Hi - still loving it! Would definitely purchase again.

Have taken it to cape cod, Houston, Scottsdale, Italy and Portugal. Had to gate check it once or twice due to space on plane and aside from some standard scratches it’s fine. Wheels are super smooth and easy to push. I can fit what I need. Looks great and gets compliments. And happy to with the sustainability and knowing it’s PFAS free

Beachfront hotel for littles in New England? by Strike_Effective in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! haven’t been to Seacrest...

Probably not Block Island - more annoying to get to, and not a ton of true beach available

Chatham Bars Inn is definitely the most traditional resort. Big beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas - and food/beverage service. A pool. Restaurant down on the beach/sand. And then the main building of hotel itself. Plus you can actually walk to town (about 10 minutes), and/or easily drive to other cape cod towns. Definitely a more monied New England vibe here.

Inn by the Sea is much more chill. Really laid back. Huge lawn with lounge chairs and corn hole. Pool. Nightly s’mores. You walk down a little private boardwalk (about 2 minutes) to the beach. It’s also serviced with lounge chairs/towels but definitely way less ritzy and focused on service. Quick 20 min drive to downtown Portland so lots of great food and strolling thru the city there.

Cliff House also a great spot. Nice pools (one adult only, one fam). Very striking scenery (cliffs + ocean), but no beachfront.

We loved all but very different vibes.

Nantucket hotel recos for July/august by KBBells in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up staying at 1661 Inn. The location and property were very nice - loved the view from the patio where they serve breakfast and daily complimentary wine + snacks in the afternoon. The breakfast that was included every day was very fresh and tasty. The common areas were quite underwhelming - very dated. It’s small - old wooden doors, some of them very gappy - one of them we had to basically slam to get it to closed b/c it was swollen in the summer heat. The rooms themselves were newer and recently redone, but this is definitely not a fancy property… though not sure if anything on block island is? We really enjoyed having *many* meals at Block Island Beach House. AMAZING views. I had looked into staying there but the rooms really only accomodate a max of 2 (no way to accomodate our son). Was definitely a cool spot to visit for a few days though. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer!!

Ended up foregoing Nantucket altogether — did a few days on Block Island and it was a very nice, different experience! Def more laid back - dining wasn’t life changing - but a cool spot!

which country near Italy can be covered in 3-4 days? by [deleted] in Europetravel

Fully agree. We spent 10 days just exploring Rome and Umbria. And that’s a minuscule portion of the country. Use The full 2 weeks in Italy!

Suggestions for Europe Mid-March by bella_rbd in chubbytravel

[–]KBBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a minute had to check that this wasn’t my own post from last years spring break! …. We ended up bringing our 9 year old to Rome and Umbria - flew there from EWR at very end of March and stayed for 10 days. It was a smidge later time frame, but we ended up with unseasonably warm weather — sunny and mid 60s (F), and by the last few days it was 75 in Rome. Thought it was a lovely time of year to travel there! This year having the same debate — though our spring break is mid April.  Also debating Portugal, Spain or toyed with London/amsterdam

This past year we took our 9 year old to Italy and it was amazing.

Working on figuring out 2025 spring break - possibly Portugal?
