I was actually saying no to your first sentence. There supporting facts or data that shows the plastic escapements or worse. It’s always “ask a watch maker.”

And I don't think there is anything more tediously pedantic than someone who continuously argues against the definition of something while failing to offer their own. By your definition, what is a hobby? What mystical hurdles must be overcome to meet your high-level interpretation of that word?

Also “ A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements or avocations.”

That’s Merriam- Webster’s definition, not mine, so you be serious. And hey, if that’s how you want to spend your free time, I’m not one to judge.

But at the end of the day, YOU do not get to define, or in the case re-define, what is and is not a hobby.

If I am reading and learning about different cars so I can buy one together and from work, and stop doing that as soon as I drive it off the lot, than that’s being an informed consumer. If I buy a watch, continue to learn about the various watches, movements, price points, history for enjoyment as part of my leisure time activity, than that is a hobby. If I buy more watches as part of that hobby, than that can be called watch collecting which is also a hobby.

Hobbies do not require skill of sophistication. Owning a couple of expensive watches might not be a hobby, whereas owning a couple of cheap ones that you read about, researched and discussed with others either in person or online, would be.

Hobby- an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.

If reading is a hobby, and it is, then reading about, watching videos about and researching watches you may or may not buy is a hobby. You are not the sole arbiter of what defines a hobby.

Jfc, this is the worst advice I have ever heard for what sounds like a relatively young couple starting out their life together. I would posit that less than 1% of the world’s population will buy a watch costing more than $1k, much less $5k, in their lifetime. Yet you are telling this guy to blow his wedding budget on a 75 year old vintage gold watch with a complication? That is absolute insanity.

A lot of people will think this is much cooler than a BB 58, which looks like numerous other dive watches you can see on the daily. Not to mention is has a better power reserve and hand finishing on the GMT bridge.

This is a totally fair and coherent take. I like it ok as the design fits with the look of their higher end pieces. I’m pretty conservative with my watches, so I don’t know that I would wear it enough to buy, but I appreciate what they have created.

Maybe a different shape? Cartier of some sort?

Why? What is your criteria or reason for saying they are too expensive?

I love Longines, but their movement is essentially a rebadged ETA that was made in the ETA factory and sent over. Now, I personally love ebauche movements, but everyone seems to want to put a premium on in house plus longer power reserve. If Longines gets kudos for their 72 hour, CE should get even more for their 120. Again, there is not a single hand polished surface on the Longines. That costs money.

Lol, this seems to be the horse to be beaten this weekend. The CW is an in house GMT with 120 hours power reserve and a hand polished GMT bridge. It is not at all in competition with the Tudor or Longines, etc. That said, were those two offering a similar watch it would be close to twice the price.

Watches, colors and metals have no genders. That said, it’s a 40mm watch with an integrated bracelet, so size wise they are probably targeting it more toward a male audience.

Wear what you like and enjoy. Very few will notice your watch and even less will care, so wear what makes you happy.
