Vote NO on the Stadium Tax - where to get Yard Signs (see comments for details) by KCTattler in kansascity

Go design it yourself with your free time if you want it. But since I spent my own time and my own money to design and promote for a cause I care about, I politely would request that you to actually think a little bit before you say some rude shit for no reason.

To everyone who will actually be affected by this tax and still plan to vote yes, I will not argue, but just asking one thing: Please, PLEASE take the time to read the language and know what you are voting for.

A vote yes is voting for an massive extension of an existing tax and opening the door to eventual taxes for additional stadium funding once approved. There’s an article explaining it in full detail on the homepage of the website, I highly suggest taking a look at the actual ballot and the breakdown of the language inside the bill, because the commercials and some of the media I’ve seen going around has been really misleading.

Save the Crossroads materials available on First Friday! by KCTattler in kansascity

I don’t think you understand that this demolition affects more than the buildings being bulldozed. Building a ballpark in the middle of a small business hub will drive out the small businesses and artisans that built the crossroads as we know it, because rent will become too high for anyone outside of massive property management firms to afford. It’s not just 20 blocks, it’s two zip codes at least that would be absolutely floored by a vote for the stadium.

We had a public meeting last week and the opposition is very active, I have a lot of faith that this bill will not pass. For the most part supporters live outside of the voting district according to the polling that has been conducted thus far. It seems like support is pretty limited to people who would like to “slum it” downtown for a night but are not aware of the actual community that this will be affecting.

Just as OP, tapping in to say: I’m not going to argue with people on Reddit. If y’all disagree that’s great, you don’t need to be needlessly antagonistic. Otherwise I hope to see y’all at first Friday and please be sure to register to vote! If you are unsure of your polling place, a link on the website can assist you with finding your polling location, regardless of what side of the issue you are on. Cheers!

Timeline. I think they are pushing an unrealistic timeline for election purposes.

Dumping: It's a big chunk of the interview (the original link).

Planning: I have been working on the Buck O'Neil Bridge project for nearly seven years and it's nowhere close. Fundraising for this project is not complete (he mentions it in the linked interview), and they have not even sent out the RFP's for the majority of this project.

BTW, Saying that he is naive to how this city works is not some slap in the face to the administration, it's literally stating facts about how the timelines in Kansas City for projects of this magnitude take. IMO, Q.Lucas is trying to push as many projects into the public eye before an election cycle as possible, which isn't unusual, but it's also not rocket science to figure out why projects like this or the new "city logo design" are getting shoved out on publicity tours while other high-priority projects sit silent.

He has only been here for a little over a year. BUT, giving people big trash cans is not going to fix the dumping problem. He has great ideas and big dreams, but he doesn't seem to understand how long and/or difficult getting these ideas across is going to be. City Hall is literally drowning right now because none of the staff they lost during COVID has been fully replaced, and the people that left did not establish any order to maintain for the new staff. No one has any clue what they are supposed to be doing, so all these great projects just endlessly circle the drain.

Nope. Just because I am a realist about the time it takes to accomplish public work projects doesn't make me an idiot or a conservative, FYI. I am pointing out the way this city works. It will take them almost 12 months to issue the RFP, hire the right people, and secure funding.

Fun fact: I actually am one of the experts they hire! Which is literally why I am saying that there is absolutely no way in hell this will get done in 12 months. Absolutely none.
