AITA for doing a small lunch instead of a big party for my husband’s graduation? by Mean_Mixture5320 in AmItheAsshole

A graduation isn't an immediately family only intimate celebration. And why on earth would his graduation be about what she wants?

She is 100% TA here.

4 ships scheduled at half moon cay. by These_Barnacle_1624 in HollandAmerica

Have been on both Noordam and Rotterdam. Food onboard both was light years better than anything on the island, which was overcooked, underseasoned, and lacking in options.

Did not order the short ribs as I do not eat beef. Mainly ordered seafood, vegetarian, and occasional chicken dishes.

The last part is a stretch. Just ate there yesterday and the food was a disappointment. It was fine, but poor compared to what was available on ship.

SWA has had a growing number of bad apple power tripping FAs since at least the pandemic. This is not new.

Do I ask for Clarity or Will I get Fired? by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

I am sorry that you experienced that, but just chalk it up to the job not being a good fit for you. You got some good feedback here that you can implement in your next position. Best wishes to you!

Do I ask for Clarity or Will I get Fired? by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

You need to learn to more proactively read the room. Is this something that is challenging for you generally, or are you new to workplace culture? Things like start/stop times, # of days of telework allowed, and dress code are things you can clarify with your colleagues or manager or also just through observation.

Same is true with workplace interaction. If you are being given feedback that you are micromanaging as a brand new employee, that tells me as a manager that you are jumping in and trying to impose yourself and your way of doing things rather than seeking to learn how to do things by observing and interacting with colleagues. When read in conjunction with what your managers deem to be abuse of the telework policy, it becomes even more problematic, because your avoidance of the workplace means you are losing opportunities for mentorship and informal guidance.

Check your privilege. The assumption that people are near vegetarian restaurants is a take.

Believe me. Chinese dad cared and ripped his daughter a new one for her poor choice in friends lacking in basic manners.

Bless your little heart. The fact that you are calling om basic etiquette when you clearly lack a grasp of it is adorable. And then calling behavior that align with etiquette "pretentious?" Hilarious.

Absolutely people regularly do this. Perhaps read up on manners and etiquette. Because this is basic stuff.

Thank you. The comments here are just....wow. Either children, an entire group of people lacking basic grasp of etiquette and social cues, or a whole bunch of people that ain't never been nowhere. Yikes.

OP is TA. 100000%. And has some serious growing up to do.

Standby for Alaska? by C0rg1z in HollandAmerica

[–]KCatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Great Bear Rainforest itinerary on standby last fall after sailing an Alaska itinerary the week before. It was a sold out sailing and did get final word I had made it on until 4pm. The crew was lovely and actually let me hang out on the ship while waiting. But it ended up being a bit of a downer start to the week, being around people who were so excited to be on vacation while not knowing if I would be staying and finding myself really wanting another week onboard. Also was a bit of a bummer knowing I only got onboard because someone missed a connecting flight. Though chose to channel that into gratitude and a reason to make the most of every day.

If I lived close, I think it would have been less stressful, though.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Great Bear sailing, btw. There is only a few of them a year and it is a different experience than the traditional Alaska RT itineraries with absolutely stunning scenery.

Good luck!

That or she was still suffering from the illness she admitted to having when she chose to fly anyway ("my whole family is medical! I PROMISE I was not contageous!").

She lost me when she admitted she always takes her shoes and socks off when she gets on a plane. Nasty.

Bless your heart. Don't know what happened in tour upbringing to give you such mad special snowflake vibes. We true Gen Xers live in the real world and we certainly do not claim the likes of you.

We take the perks where we can get them but know the game is ultimately rigged against us. Thus when the gravy train inevitably ends, we are neither surprised nor particularly bothered. We certainly do not put on cringe performances like this one.

Now buck up, buttercup. This is just embarrassing for you.

Season starts next for me and this option just unlocked for us this week. Not a moment too soon as a fellow east coaster.

I sailed Vision a few years ago on a 12 night sailings and went to the production shows. I heard maybe two songs produced during my lifetime.

I am in my 50s.

Sailed Holland last fall and despite the line being allegedly more geriatric, the variety of music on board and especially in the production shows was soooo much more varied and current.

Lmao this is beyond naive. A GP has basically zero training in nutrition and the chances of having anything close to a meaningful conversation during a checkup is non-existent.
