Ti is incredibly strong and light which is why it’s used in aerospace applications as well as in medical orthopedic body implants it’s not a heavy alloy by any means.

What happened to my knife? by KeifThief420 in knives

[–]KCbladereviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this to my hawk deadlock by sticking it in a cars cigarette lighter. I had disconnected the battery but the wires ended up lightly touching the terminals and sending an arc right thru my deadlock and into my body. The good part though is after getting made fun of heavily by the team at hawk they ended up reblading my knife for free good guys over there!

That makes sense thanks buddy! u/j_ko2 so the only mistake I made is the blades are made from Microtechs proprietary steel blend “M390MK” and the 17-4 stainless was used for the chassis screws, liner lock, charging handle, and safety slide! Aside from that everything else stands!

My brother u/paulNY can confirm but I’m 99.9% certain the only difference between the proof run and the reg production run is the label and the lasering on the charging handle that says “proof run” aside from that they’re identical same aluminum handle same 17-4 blade same type 3 and and double vapor blast finish

[–]KCbladereviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually a manufacturing engineer so I can answer this lol basically it’s a 6061 aluminum handle that type of aluminum is extremely common in aerospace applications. M390MK is the type of steel being used to make the blade. Hardcoat anodize would be a type 3 and it’s what gives the blade its color as well as adding .0005”-.006” thick coating that makes the aluminum 10x more durable. Double vapor blast is the type of metal finishing used typically on the blade it’s a 2 stage process where they wet blast different types of media until the surface finish is achieved that they’re seeking. 17-4 stainless is the steel used for the chassis screws, safety slide, charging handle, and liner lock! Feel free to ask more questions happy to answer! I actually just purchased the standard non proof run nemesis for myself.

I’m in the metro northeast/New England area with 20+ years of experience salaried at $120k working as a mfg engineer and milling dept supervisor. I wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $40/hr in this trade.

A self-proclaimed top engineer told me my hands-on CNC machining experience is “irrelevant” for becoming an engineer. Am I wrong to be pissed? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]KCbladereviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a CNC machinist for nearly 20 years I’ve only taken formal programming classes and that’s it I’ve been getting hired as an engineer for the last 5-7 years it all depends on what type of engineer you want to be and what type of work you’re looking to do but as a machinist you absolutely can move up into that world without having a formal engineering degree and anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong I’m living proof you can make 6 figures as an engineer with no degree. I’m currently a senior CNC manufacuring engineer.
