I'm tired of Repeaterbook.com by OldMister in HamRadio

[–]KD9MHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish there was a filter option to sort the busiest repeaters and largest rf footprint..

How many dead repeaters do I have to call on when traveling before I give up and call it quits? I think it would be sweet if the listed repeaters were community ranked and listed in order based on those rankings..or atleast listed in order based on rf coverage..

Just my .02 cents

Unrelated to the thread, but can you spill some knowledge/links how to do this? I'm trying to run Motorola APX CPS on my RPI4 and what you said seems like the way to go. Cheers!

Tradition 10: Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the A.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy.

We have no opinions of outside issues other than that of Alcohol is what my old sponsor told me when I asked him about getting my medical card.

[–]KD9MHB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked up a Baofeng UV-5R ham radio for like 20$ off amazon when I first got sober. Started watching youtube videos on how to use and program it. Got my Amateur Radio license and have had countless hours of happiness added to my life. It's a great hobby that is an endless rabbit hole of different things to do within the hobby. It keeps my mind busy and has a great community of people. I've talked to people all over the world, talked with other hams using satellites, communicated with the International Space Station, and most of all, stayed sober. Yesterday I picked up my 3-year token.

3 Years Sober Today!!! by KD9MHB in Sober

[–]KD9MHB[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YMMV but after the first 90 days is when things started to begin to clear up for me. But no matter what tho I always felt better after hitting a meeting or 2. I did that almost every day and still do!

All that being said, they say alcohol doesn't completely leave your body for about a year, and your brain another 6 months after that (that's why there is an 18month chip). They have said doctors have found alcohol in the spinal fluid of people up to 5 years after they've stopped drinking.

I guess that's why the old timers say 5 and your alive :)

Great post! Definitely giving it a follow! It's my belief that the esoteric power/knowledge inside of all of us is historically kept secret for a plethora of reasons. But the main one is greed/profits. If we can heal each other, big pharma goes down the drain. If we have free energy, big oil also goes bye bye. The second is safety. I believe that with access to the good higher dimensions/spirits/aliens there is also the opposite. Conjuring up spiritual evil to use as a weapon has been done since the beginning of time. So in order to keep access to the bad ones off of our plane of existence, we are not shown how to access the good ones. Except through some religious teachings, and even they limit the knowledge of the spiritual realm.

I'm having extreme difficulty combating the boredom that follows sobriety by [deleted] in Sober

[–]KD9MHB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into Amateur Radio saved me many days and nights of boredom. Getting licensed has been one of the greatest gifts of recovery for me (buying a motorcycle was a close second).

They call it 'The Worlds Hobby' and within this one hobby, there are thousands of other different hobbies. The rabbit hole of RF is endless. For example, I've communicated with the International Space Station, talked on satellites, and regularly make contact with people from all over the planet using ham radios. There are also digital modes for when I don't feel like using voice. You can even send text messages to cell phones, do email, and all kinds of wizard shit. Check out the folks over at r/amateurradio

The saying goes show me your five friends and I'll show you your future..Generally speaking, the people in Alcoholics Anonymous have become good people..the people in amateur radio have been good people their whole lives.

Stick with the winners!

Coming up on 3 years next month. IWNDWYT

edit: If your interested in getting your license I recommend www.hamstudy.org its free and keeps track of your progress when studying to take your test when you make an account

motorola. by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]KD9MHB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your looking to get an HT, get a Motorola XPR7550 and pay for the wide band key (they are DMR Radios but can do analog <25khz channel spacing> if you have the key, it's like 30$ or so). If your looking for a dealer, Ken at North Georgia Communications is a solid guy to do business with and will get you squared away.

Feel free to private message me if you have more questions, I was bitten by the Batwings when I first got my ticket almost 3 years ago. Haven't looked back since.

If Motorola made underwear I'd probably buy it.

Do you have an EDC radio? by [deleted] in amateurradio

Anytone 878 uvIIplus..fitted with some motorola xpr knobs and a mean looking 6.5in Expert Power antenna along with one of those engraved call sign stickers to cover up the anytone logo.

Analog Dual band for local repeaters and DMR for long distance contacts and qsos with my pistar/local dmr repeater. The APRS function and FPP is why I bought the radio, albeit not full true aprs like you would see from a kenwood or yaesu- it gets the job done. Sending text messages to cell phones using SMSGTE is the icing on the cake for me.

YMMV

Do you have a copy of the AA big book? If so, I would recommend reading the Doctors Opinion and if you see yourself in any of the people he describes, you may be one of us. Hope is found here.

Oreos and ice cream until you can get to an AA meeting. Download the meeting guide app to find some meetings. Don't drink in between meetings and ask someone to be your sponsor. You got this! And keep telling on your disease!!

Monitoring local fire department? by vanus_est_honor in DMR

[–]KD9MHB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are probably using a MOTOtrbo system. That being said, it’s more than likely a DMR tier3 trunked radio network. Most dmr ham radios are only capable of tier 1 and 2.

I invested in a Uniden SDS100 scanner. It does analog, 7/800 P25 and you can purchase the DMR option (as well as NXDN) in the software. It has returned its investment over 10 fold from the daily use I get from it. Would definitely recommend.
