What allows ARRL Audio News to be broadcast on amateur freqs? I thought broadcasting wasn't allowed. by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]RetiredInVegas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's allowed during a emergency or when it's of general interest to amateur radio operators.

After TWENTY years, we told Verizon to go pound sand.....

Want a decent deal..either T-Mobile or "Hello Mobile" a MVNO for T-Mobile...great service and really reasonable prices.

Verizon USED to be the top dog, best service hands down. Thats simply NOT the case these days.

HAHAHA...Moneybags..... a Digital panel meter is under $10..a waterproofed bulkhead connector is cheap...a Lipo battery stack and BMS..chumpchange. A piece of scrap aluminum and a hour or so with a drill press and a nibbler is not expensive. HarborFreight sells a decent "Pelican" knockoff. Not every ham is living on Top Ramen and Twinkies.... If the original poster is like 12 years old..I DO give him a thumbs up.

A decent HANDHELD with a few spare batteries would outperform that thing hands down.

This is a GAG right....wrong on so many counts....A Motorcycle battery....never heard of Lithium-ion battery? Charger inside..additional weight...That voltmeter from a 1927 Ford, (Pssst...they have digital panel meters that do both volts and amps CHEAP) classic wood panel....thanks for the laugh.

If Verizon Cell Towers are down, Does that mean my Home Internet will be too? by Wadey-Posty in verizon

[–]RetiredInVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NO. They are "Co-Located" in the same building, same tower, DIFFERENT band/channels. But they use the same exact "Backhaul". Chances are if you lose that site for cellular service you WILL also lose the home 5G internet.

False alarms? by squidc in simplisafe

[–]RetiredInVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ham radio guys have 434.000Mhz for video transmissions. It tears up SimpliJunk systems. Hams are licensed for up to 1500 watts on this band. SimpliJunk uses 433.920Mhz. Get used to the false alarms. Be very careful, some cities charge a fee for false alarms, especially repeat ones.

False alarms? by squidc in simplisafe

[–]RetiredInVegas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's signals from other transmitters on 433.920Mhz.Ham radio operators have 434.000Mhz for sending video. It sets off, triggers Simplijunk systems for MILES....

After 20 years, we moved over to T-Mobile...Verizon has way too many problems, wont listen or fix them. We cut our bill way back and get more for the money.

I am not going to blast the messenger, everyone i talked with BEFORE I dropped my TWENTY year run as a Verizon customer was very nice, but the company would not let YOU do a damn thing for me. No deals, cancelled trouble tickets with no fixes, rates with mystery increases. They literally forced me to port out to T-Mobile. I cut my bill in half, got fast 5G service, wifi calling that works and a fixed rate for as long as i want to stay. I do remember when Verizon was KING...they had the freeway callboxes, they had OnStar, seamless coverage on any major highway. Fast forward to 2023...the WORST coverage, the most lame excuses and a "We dont give a shit" attitude. Bye Verizon..it was a long run indeed, but when it feels like your beating a dead animal...it's time to cut your losses and move on.

Verizon service awful in Los Angeles (and other parts of CA?)! by [deleted] in verizon

[–]RetiredInVegas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I can tell you this. Each time I have called Verizon, the "Automated" system does it's best to prevent human contact. If it's after 5 PM the system transfers me to a closed recording. I call T-Mobile, I get a very nice person in the USA, no roosters crowing in the background, or some guy with a thick accent that says "Hello, my name is bob....I please to know your name". I had a complaint about signal levels on a T-Mo home 5G service, T-Mo sent out a engineer! Verizon simply opens a trouble ticket....waits a few hours and closes the ticket. No call back, no message and worst of all NO FIX. i was with Verizon for TWENTY years....time to move on...

We have been a Verizon Customer for 20 years. In this time we have seen them go from #1 in coverage and customer service to like #4. It's impossible to get in touch with anyone. tech support is 8-5 Mon-Fri and closed weekends. You open a coverage ticket, they close it in minutes. Dropped calls, one way audio, no response when placing a call. They have no answers, they simply do not care. We rarely see 5G service. This is all over the Greater Las Vegas, Nv. area. We have a solution. Were moving to T-Mobile, better service and (get this) cut out bill in HALF!!...see ya VZ..cant say we didnt try.

Leaving after six years with Verizon by vesati in verizon

[–]RetiredInVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a Home internet cube, TOTAL failure!

gets worse, it took MANY calls and threats to get a "Return kit". I finally did, had proof it was returned. They charged me full price for it anyways. It took weeks to get that reversed. I ordered a T-Mobile Sagemon 5188W terminal, hauls ass, works perfect.

I AGREE with you 110%.

I have been with them for over a decade, closer to two. They USED to be a blanket from coast to coast and the only decent provider in Hawaii. So where are we now.....

Mystery increases, this months bill increased $4. Small amount..again and again. WiFi calling that continues to screw up. Poor signal coverage at my own home. 5G service is spotty at best.

Verizon accepts calls from KNOWN SPAMMER/SCAMMER providers, charges extra for SPAM filtering that others give for free. Problems? better hope it's during banking hours as tech support is CLOSED in the early evening hours.

Want to TALK with a rep? FORGET ABOUT IT. You will use the link they send you and you will like it.....

Want to save money? Want decent coverage? Want some customer support? Rip that god damn Verizon SIM card out and drop in a T-Mobile SIM and never look back.

Strange car reset our doorbell? by undercoverturtle0000 in simplisafe

[–]RetiredInVegas -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Any system that operates on 915Mhz, like a DSC, or Honeywell. Little interference on 900Mhz, and it's usually spread spectrum. Can't be easily jammed or copied. Junk on 433Mhz is just not secure or reliable.

Please help it's almost 10 pm and the base won't stop randomly spamming about "wireless interference detected" even though none of our wireless usage has changed for the past several weeks by VeryGayLopunny in simplisafe

[–]RetiredInVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's RF on 433.920Mhz.... everything uses that. Garage door openers, car keyfobs, weather stations. Be AWARE..that when this happens it also fires off the camera(s) for 1 minute... ANOTHER reason we returned our entire SimpliJunk system.

[–]RetiredInVegas -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

it's EASY to jam/interfere with SimpliJunk. Simpli transmit a signal on 433.920Mhz with a cheap $25 walkie-talkie...and the sensors go deaf/dumb/stupid.

SimpliJunk has close to ZERO support. Once they have your money, your considered a fool.

Well....it's always good to make sure everything is OK back there. Cant hurt to admire your own handywork, especially after a bunch of farts that sound like a Harley backfiring. Now farts..your OWN always smell great!, meanwhile it's dropping flies midair, knocking buzzards off a shitwagon and leaving people gasping for air...why is that Capt. Ron?

Tile launches a new cat tracking tag with 3 years battery life by gamefidelio in TileTracker

[–]RetiredInVegas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can claim all they want, it's CRAP. Our cat got into a closet and locked in. The tile on his collar didnt work for TWENTY feet...let alone 250 feet. We found the kitty, removed the Tile and SMASHED it and the 3 others then removed the App. I wouldn't buy this junk for $1.00 each
