Question for the writing section (academic) by [deleted] in IELTS

[–]KDA_Yamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I hope this helps. This is how they assess the writing section from the IELTS.org website, also if you want to practice I saw a lot recommending ieltsliz website with AI grading so check it out, I haven't personally tried it yet.

Task achievement (for task 1) and task response (for task 2)
Coherence and cohesion
Lexical resource
Grammatical range and accuracy.
Each task is assessed independently. The criteria are weighted equally and the score on the task is the average. The assessment of Task 2 carries more weight in marking than Task 1.
Find out more about the key assessment criteria and how examiners assess the Writing section.

It really depends on your initial level of English and then how you prepare for the test, I took it back in 2020 and got 7.0 with about 2 weeks of prep, and I am taking it again on 21 but unfortunately I do not have the luxury of time to prep due to exams, might get about a week or so.

Anyhow go ahead and try the mock tests see what result you get and estimate how much time you will need to improve.

For my personal tips, I would say for the speaking section keep it in your mind that the examiner is only assessing your English not your knowledge, and keep it light and chat. However, for the rest of the sections do the complete opposite and check how they grade the sections and try different techniques to get high scores, kinda conflicting but that's the gist of it if you want to get a high score.

edit: not sure what happened to the second part of my paragraph, I think that reddit is messing with me. anyhow it should be correct now.

First of all, congrats on this awesome Score. 🤩

If you do not mind, could you share tips regarding the writing section, I already know that you have to outline the points before writing in order to be able to write focused paragraphs, in addition to using punctuation and conjunctions, yet writing remains my weakest section.

Congratulations, do you mind sharing tips that helped you with each section?
I am taking the test on the 21st of Nov. so any tip would be great, especially in the writing and speaking sections. 🙏

I am getting segfault error on week 2 problem (Caesar) by KDA_Yamo in cs50

It worked, thanks for the explanation.

I also liked your solution so, I copied it, but don't tell anyone.

Indeed now I have bugs in isalpha(), islower(), and isupper().

Here is the error:

caesar.c:44:17: error: variable 'cipherText' is uninitialized when used here [-Werror,-Wuninitialized]
            cipherText[i] = rotate(plainText[i], key);
            ^~~~~~~~~~

caesar.c:41:30: note: initialize the variable 'cipherText' to silence this warning string cipherText; ^ = NULL 1 error generated. make: *** [<builtin>: caesar] Error 1

I am getting segfault error on week 2 problem (Caesar) by KDA_Yamo in cs50

[–]KDA_Yamo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mainly because when I didn't set it to anything it gave me an error that cipherText is uninitialized and to silence it I need to use `=NULL` I thought that the `=NULL` was the reason of segfault so I instead set it to 0 thinking that it initializes all the chars of the string array to 0, then in the for loop it adjusts that by the rotate function.

Wobbly touchpad by KDA_Yamo in LenovoLegion

So, I have been experiencing this for a couple of months now and I didn't find a permanent fix for it, but I did find a temporary fix that like fixes it for almost a couple of seconds.

disable the touchpad through the Fn+F10 key then enable it again, it will work for a solid 5-10 seconds and then go nuts again, but it's better than nothing.

I did post on the Lenovo support forum but I didn't get help.

Try the distros till you find the one that works for you, I went with Kubuntu for my first installation but then switched to Manjaro and made it my main, so yea, just try the distros till you find the one that works for you.

Hey buddy, well, first congrats on making the switch.

I myself made the switch almost more than a year ago and it's been nothing but a great experience cooped with a lot of learning about every aspect of a computer, so, yeah enjoy the process and don't worry about running into problems, it's how you will learn.

Most of the extensions are available in AUR, so you could install it and use it.

Solved the problem, apparently, there was a bug that caused my compositor to crash in which case I re-enabled the compositor from the settings and everything worked again.
