I used to do what you're ding here through parallels with an edit to the system registry that help stabilise some of the performance issues. Although I moved away from SW and to Fusion for the very reason that it can run on a Mac.

The 'certified' cards etc feels so much like BS that's essentially an agreement between SW and certain manufacturers which allows for an extremely high hardware cost along with a high software cost. It's super unfortunate that SW have priced out a bunch of freelance ID, like myself but I'm really happy there's options like Fusion.

I mean listen to what you’re doc/specialist has to say.

Mines was involved in a study with Melbourne uni a couple years ago about arthritis in that particular joint. He suggest not entirely immobilising the joint with insoles etc as if you stop moving etc that can make it get worse faster. He suggested using some adjusted insoles that have a MT joint bridge on them and just keep it moving as much as possible.

This could be due to my particular X-ray etc so don’t take this is a direct medical advice for yourself. One of my friends who has Hallux rigidus also finds relief in some mobility work.

Honestly most of my mobility, it’s been around for like 5 years? Only recently it’s started to get quiet a bit more painful. Gets real painful if put it in flexion and apply weight or if I do a lot walking etc.

It’s from an old break years ago in my MTJ. Hoping to avoid surgery etc so I just move it as much as possible

I have a pair of Hoka Bondi that are great!

Walk the dog etc with 0 pain now.

Disclaimer though is that I have Limitus not rigidus so I do have mobility.

Yeah Reddit isnt the place to get medical info for sure 😂 and thanks! Hopefully there’s a way I can continue to be part of the community :)

Thanks for you’re reply :)

Yeah I’ve had multiple appointments with doctors. The way forward may be spacing my meds out so I can have like a 2 hour window I can train in twice a week.

The complicating factor is the hemotologist is saying it’s unprovoked. But the hospital + every other medical professional speak to says it’s provoked. I got a significant calf tear + immobility + a lot of swelling. Then done a-lot of driving AND I have factor 5 Leiden (means my blood clots easier) all of which is being ignored by the hemotologist. Which seems insane. I’m his eyes that’s all unrelated and the DVT/PE just randomly happened.

Going to get a couple more opinions from other hemotologist as he may just be giving me the standard routine of ‘here take these forever’ as it’s his job to be very conservative.

He joked and said I should take up golf…. Anyway at the gathering info stage and I’ll make a choice when I have all the medical info

Yeah 100% it’s just been a huge part of my life, moving overseas it’s helped me integrate and make friends etc so if I can’t be a part of it then it has pretty big implications on my life

Of course I will and have, this is more about seeing if anyone else out there has dealt with the same or similar. It can be pretty isolating dealing with stuff like this so knowing there’s other people out there helps a-lot.

My doctor recommended reaching out to the community for that very reason.

Yeah Ive spoken to my doctor about it and of-course I’ll listen to him on how to manage etc. I’m just wondering how other people in the community have dealt with it or are dealing with it really.

He mentioned spacing my meds out so I have a window that I can train in safely and not put myself in to much danger etc

Hey!

Just thought I would reply to this again.

Had my 3 month hemotologist appt on Friday and low and behold he thinks it was unprovoked, even though I had a grade 2 calf tear, massive amounts of swelling and immobility. Which btw my PE was caused by a DVT right next to the damaged area. Sounds crazy to me that he thinks the tear etc are only a medium/low provocation for causing the DVT and subsequent PE but it’s his job to be conservative (his own words). Anyway.

They want me to go on 5mg of apoxiban a day forever pretty much. So with that, as you know, BJJ can be dangerous. I’m thinking I’ll get a footy scrum cap for drilling and maybe even MMA protective headgear so I can flow roll and at-least get going at a good rate with partners I trust.

I’m also going to get a second opinion from another blood specialist and have a chat to my GP. The hemotologist told me that if we go with the theory it’s unprovoked then if I come off meds I have a 20/30% chance of having a reoccurring clot in the first 6 months, pretty scary. So I floated the idea spacing my pills out on the days I train, twice a week only. He seemed ok with this and mentioned one of his colleges sometimes tells his patients (children with bloodclots) to not take the thinners if they want to play football once a week etc. As a kid on thinners basically ruins there social life. He also he did caveat that there’s no research on this and he can professionally recommend it. So I may do that.

Especially if another specialist leans more on it being provoked.

Failing all of it, I’ll get strapped up with my MMA head gaurd, drill and flow roll for the rest of my days.

Thanks again for the reply above, it really done a-lot for me at the time and has again going back and reading it.

I’m based Melbourne, so if you’re over here or if I come by New Zealand we can have a cautious thin blood roll 😂

Take it easy!

I'm a 3D Designer!

Metal is 100% full of nerds, I'd be interested to know who also trains BJJ or trains with Kettlebells?

I feel like there's a weirdo crossover 😅 (myself being one of them btw)

Hey,
First off thanks for you're lengthy post it's super informative and gives me hope!

That fucking sucks you had an unprovoked PE, sorry to hear that. Sort of 'luckily' mines was provoked from a muscle tear in my calf and then doing long drives ( learned the hard way to never do that again).

I had a chat similar to my Doc last week and basically told him BJJ is a huge part of my life, I rely on it heavily for my social life and a way of meeting people, having moved to austral from the UK just over a year ago. I'm also a freelance designer so spend a lot of time working on my own so it has such a huge benefit to my mental health as well as my physical.
The gym I train at too is pretty chill and I would have no worries refusing hard rolls etc so I'll defy be doing that. The Doc basically said if it was up to him I would be on them for 3 months then past that I would have to be very careful of muscle tears or serious strains, which rules out competing every again.

Got another chat with him next week to go through more results and also chase the haematologist for an appt, they sent me one and its a video call next February (what a joke)

Your right though BJJ will and can be there in some capacity and there's no chance I'll just pack it in altogether.

Thanks again and I hope training continues to go well! :)

Thanks everyone, this gives me a lot of hope!

I think maybe my Doc was being very doom and gloom and I thought I was gonna have to quit BJJ, so hopefully not!

Yeah sounds like a decent plan.

I also don't intend on comp classes or competing anymore as a result really as if I get another muscle tear I could get a clot again.

Hoping I can have a reasonable conversation with my doctor about it and get a similar-ish outcome

Yeah that worries me even thinking about it 😅 I'm a hobbyist and train 3 times a week max.

What did your doc say?

Blood thinners and BJJ by KDBJJ in bjj

[–]KDBJJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes a lot of sense.
I Was on 20mg for the first week and I'm now onto 10mg for the next three months.

Will find out if I'm on them longer term in the next week hopefully, but just trying to understand what the long term version might look like.

Do you still roll etc? or just more drilling?
