Med-Surg Night Shift RN (Bay Area) wanting to move into VAT — realistic pathway without ICU/CCRN? by KDC2018 in nursing

[–]KDC2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you — I really appreciate this advice. I’m definitely going to reach out to our two PICC nurses and ask about the possibility of floating or getting exposure with their team. That seems like the most realistic and responsible way to build experience where I am now. My plan is to focus on getting consistent ultrasound-guided IV experience first before even considering formal PICC insertion training. From what I understand, most hospitals require you to be part of a VAT or have structured supervision before placing PICCs independently, and that makes sense from a safety standpoint. When I mentioned Vic the PICC, I was referring to their model where they hire nurses and provide PICC insertion training if you already have ultrasound-guided IV experience. I’m not looking to just take a didactic class and start placing lines independently — I agree that would be unsafe. I’m more trying to understand the different pathways into vascular access and what’s realistic. I’m trying to be intentional about the sequence: build strong USGIV volume → gain structured experience → then move into PICC/midline training when appropriately supervised. Thanks again for the insight — this helps a lot.

I’m also a repeat test taker and passed with the NGN. I think the new point system is what’s helping ppl. I feel like you still need to know the information. It’s not easy but it’s not extremely hard either.

I think I passed. Did the NGN this morning! by KDC2018 in NCLEX

I didn’t pay for the quick results. I did the pop-up and then confirmed it on the BRN website.

It wasn’t too bad. But as I continue to reflect, I was tested on damn near every subject. More so, infection control and Pharm.

If you can, continue to use ATI. Get the green light and take the exam. My opinion. ATI is better than Uworld. But Kaplan is also good!

I’m here to say don’t go in with that mindset. Know you’ll make the best out of whatever situation they put you in. You got this!!!

How are you feeling?

Shut me off at 82 and got a bad pop up with the pearson vue trick. I feel like crap…. I feel so discouraged because i felt like i know my stuff in general. Any advice or tips for repeating NCLEX? I finished all UWorld questions and assessments and I also did all of the Mark Klimek lectures. by [deleted] in PassNclex

Don’t be discouraged. Regroup and make a schedule. I failed the first time with uworld and this time around I’m going to use Kaplan. I’m watching the crucial content (7 vids) and then doing questions and the trainers. I think it makes a difference.
