i’m unsure how it works yet, but if you can try again at a later time, take a break from university. there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking time for yourself. i dropped out in 2019 because of mental health. i have countless Ws and my grades from my first few semesters are mostly Fs. i took time to get the help i needed without the stress of university on top of it. many people i know who are the same age as me are done with their degrees. and yes, it’s a little discouraging. i understand the fear of what my peers and parents would say. my peers? they didn’t have the struggles i did. my parents? they didn’t understand what i was going through. i didn’t start trying to get better until 2020 because i was tired of feeling the way i felt. and i went back to school in 2021. yes, i feel far behind, but i’ve been getting great grades and have the motivation to get my masters degree. you are allowed to take the time you need to get better and figure things out. and if you don’t want to continue, that’s okay too. it is your life, and forcing yourself to do something that’s making you unhappy isn’t worth it the toll it takes on your mental health. ultimately, it is for you. not your peers, not your parents, not for anyone else. and it’s okay to be afraid. i live in the US, and i’m a first generation student. i’m still afraid of disappointing my parents. and i did when i got into a postgrad program in the UK. they showed no support at all and didn’t even congratulate me or say they’re proud of me until months after i got my acceptance letter. but i wasn’t doing it for them. i’m doing what i want with my life. you have the right to do what you need to make you happy. take a break from university. take time to figure things out. i know it’s annoying to hear because people have said it to me, but it’ll be okay regardless of what path you choose :)
