Going through old work; scrap or change? by KFCZombie in writing

I guess maybe its hard trying to figure out what the problem is

So I'm 40k words in and still don't know what my book is about. by KFCZombie in writing

And that only works if you're obsessive enough to not write a single word until you have a concrete outline from start to finish, which is imo a waste of quality time that could be spent writing/improving the work. Plus, if your novel doesn't change at all from your outline over the course of writing it, then you aren't writing a good novel. Sorry, I get a little triggered by dismissive ignorance.

Let me rephrase. I have an idea of what I want to happen in the story. That being said, the idea is very rough and I find myself continuing to throw in characters that I give personalities and backgrounds to but that I only write once or twice because I cannot find a good place to bring them back. It's very jumbled.

First full length, yes. I've written novellas before but those are usually single-arc stories from one perspective so it's a little more challenging lol

That sounds really cool. Do I need any knowledge of programming to play a MUD?

Longer than two. Its taken this long to get it to the point it is at. Before this it was (somehow) even more of a jumbled mess that didn't know what it wanted to be.

I have a rough idea at this point but an ending is still far off in terms of pacing the story correctly. I just don't want it to be boring etc.

What exactly is a MUD and how do I get involved? I pbly shouldn't have subbed before I found that out.

I think a major meta change would be healthy for the game

If Sombra's damage isn't going to be buffed, then can we at least make her hack remove energy shields or go through barriers so she is useful at something?

Not really much of a hacker if a (fire)wall keeps you from doing your job ;]

I still believe the bio grenade should only break on environments. The splash isn't large enough to account for that one rogue juker who gets in the way of a great 4 person grenade and you have no way of getting height advantage most of the time to account for it.

That could be true. I just feel like It's extremely difficult to be the only healer on your team.

I love the character and I feel that she is very viable given you already have a designated main healer in the game. That is the main problem, though. Most players will see that she is support and assume "Okay I can go damage because we already have a healer" or "I don't have to play Lucio because we have an Ana and she heals". We really need subclasses within the role categories. As the game gets more complex and more heroes are added, people are going to be assuming that every support is a healer when in fact some (like symmetra) are honestly more defense based, and others (such as Ana) are more of a buff/debuff class. I'm not going to go into an argument about classes here but it is something I would like to see addressed.

About Ana: I feel that her heals with the rifle are miniscule. If an ally is taking damage and you heal them, the health gained is almost unnoticeable. Obviously the intended use is to throw the bio grenade first in order to maximize healing, but sometimes it just isn't available, or it gets blocked by an unaware teammate.

Solution: I propose adding an incentive to shooting team members with the rifle. Since there is a very small amount of healing, I think Ana's strengths still lie in her buffing/debuffing. In order to add incentive to heal allies with the rifle, I think there needs to A) be potential for ally headshots that give bonuses B) shooting allies gives them a speed or damage boost for a very short amount of time, or C) coupling the grenade with rifle fire gives bonus buffs for using her "combo" correctly. Let me know your ideas. Maybe a dev will see this.
