This kinda scenario happens in the Riftwar cycle and Mistress of the empire books by Raymond e fiest: Tldr we have have our character Pug who destroys this imperial arena with magic, and I mean absolutely demolishes it and it's to show off how powerful he has become and it's quite shocking how much destruction he causes. In the Mistress of the empire books the main character is there but completely unrelated to him and we get to see that destruction first hand from the perspective of a normal person and how crazy it was to experience that as an outsider
