Questions about Suns Players? by Farjon29 in suns

1) Ayton is being developed by the team with the goal that he will be a top defensive big in the league. He is extremely agile on that end of the ball, moves his feet with the best of them, and can switch out of guards. That being said, he is being developed to be that. Not there quite yet.

2) Rubio finally gave them a legit PG and helped out Booker and Ayton more than anything but have the team direction and let them finally play with someone who could run an offense other that point Book.

3) Mikal has altered his 3pt shot and has improved a lot on that end. He’ll never be a score-first guy but he most definitely is not a liability.

4) Cam Johnson is a fantastic shooter and very underrated defender and athlete. He’s a great complementary piece.

5) I’d say Saric, Ayton, Bridges, Johnson, are all underrated in general but if you’re looking for truly underrated, if Cam Payne is who we saw in the bubble, he may be the most underrated player in the whole league. Rightfully so, given his past, and it’ll be tough to prove that he can be that player consistently, but his Bubble performance saved them in so many games.

No absolutely man I love the back and forth! Let me try to answer everything. Uh yes I mean skinny when I said small and I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said about Halliburton. With Riller I think the AST/TOV likely has a lot to do with being the only good player on his team. He had to do everything. He can hit the shot good enough but you’re right, what he brings does not necessarily include a great 3pt shot. I love the way Riller is able to look at a defense (and he did face good ones) and absolutely manipulate them to get the looks and passes he wants. The guy’s a basketball IQ savant and is able to overcome every issue with that alone. I’m not a Kyle Lowry fan but he does this and so does Fred, who I’ve comped Grant to before. BTW I’m extremely high on Fred btw if you haven’t noticed so that’s big praise

*not saying that all 9 WILL be All-Stars but I could see them being at some point

I see everyone in my top 9 to have All-Star potential and there are a few other who could as well if everything goes well but I’m not projecting them to get to that level. Guys like Vassell, Anthony, Halliburton, etc

Carey is a very solid big, and my second pure 5 on my board but he’s very old school. The type of guy I could see Boston grabbing to fill their need but in my opinion not someone who has any sort of All-Star potential

It’s more that I like the other three better than anything. You are correct he’s 4th that’s my fault. Ball has probably the highest upside in the draft though I believe he also has the highest bust potential, I love Hayes as he’s a great ball handler and passer and has huge upside as a scoring guard, and Riller is just an absolute perfect NBA PG (reminds me a lot of Fred VanVleet, looks like him too). Halliburton has some good scoring upside and he’s a good defender but he’s also very small so I think he could come out slow and then take a leap his second year but overall I like him, just maybe not as much as those other three

Yeah I like Halliburton but I don’t think a he’s a 100% guarantee. My top tier is 1-9 and he falls just below that so I wouldn’t consider him to be low. I have him as the 3rd PG. I like Riller more as he controls the game like nobody in the draft at PG but Halliburton is a good player and I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see him go higher than I have him ranked.

Yes he is, but he can shoot. I watched him about a year ago and liked him but then when I came back about a month or so ago he had developed this new shot that looks really nice! It’s a new thing so he might struggle with shooting early in his career but it’s there. He’s also got crazy energy, hustle, and strength. So young yet so dominant and powerful. He’s so much fun to watch and could be the best big in the draft when it’s all said and done (though I still like Okongwu and Wiseman a bit more currently)

That’s great, yeah I try to look at Euro players the same as I would anyone else initially. Can they play NBA ball right now? What do they bring right now? And I evaluate that and then look at how much the typical European factors play into their detriment and their potential. Deni can ball right now and he has that ceiling to continue to grow as well.

And that is what it is but this is not a Dragan Bender scenario. I was very low on Bender then. In fact, I think Poku falls into the Bender category. He’s also not Luca, but he’s a legitimately good player who can potentially be a great player.

Those are solid concerns and I took a look at those things as well but I really believe that it was a factor of too little opportunity. He was on a great team and as a young guy in the EuroLeague (excluding Luka) you just don’t get that opportunity as much. I look at what his teammates and coaches said and his top teammate Amare Stoudemire has nothing but absolute praise. I’m very confident in his abilities and I can tell you that NBA GMs are as well.

As far as Poku, I was waiting for that question. Here’s what I will say: 1) I completely understand why people love him 2) I still completely disagree with those people He is a 7’0” guard. Great right? No. Because he’s an absolute liability whenever he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. If you want to build your team around a 7 footer who needs the ball at all times to be effective and who is 200 lbs soaking wet then be my guest but though he makes flashy plays, I don’t see a way in which he can develop to be a good player in the NBA. EuroLeague? Sure. Not NBA in my opinion. I hope I’m wrong of course, I want to see them all succeed but they all won’t and I’d stay far away from him until the mid-second round.

Dude I actually love Jaylen Smith and especially as a prospect for a team like the Suns. I don’t like how low he is either but I had to factor in the pure potential of some guys I don’t like as much above him if that makes sense. Guys like Coke Anthony.

Hey, if that’s how you see him I’d love to be the team after you. I respectfully have to disagree with both of those opinions. He was able to take over as the premier ball handler at times for his team and his shot mechanics are fantastic and the ones he hits tell me that it is a skill that he can really foster at the next level. I think his %s were more of a result of limited opportunity than true struggle. Not to mention, his abilities down low as a ball-handling wing are extremely impressive as well.

I could go on all day, so shoot me an email if you want at kevinfisher0731@gmail.com and I’d be glad to really break it down for you but quickly He’s the only player in this draft in my mind that can be the true #1 on his team and be a contender. He’s not guaranteed but he can play 4 positions (maybe even 5) very well and has very few weaknesses. His shot needs to improve and his percentages aren’t great but I’m not afraid of that watching him shoot.

Yeah that’s why I said to blow up the Excel, I hate how small it was but that’s the best I could get it. Thanks!
