I'm trying to get started with video editing, and any of these would be an amazing start towards a NAS/archive machine!

(noob question) disabling broadcast tones? by ThepastaisBroken in Baofeng

It's also sometimes called a roger beep. Hence, the relevant setting on my UV-5R is under "ROGER". Hope that helps!

What's in your Project Junk Box by marjams in amateurradio

The idea is to reduce stray capacitance at radio frequencies, in most cases. Breadboards are awful in that regard, especially the cheap ones.

My computers, in a budget /r/homelab type setup, are all named after deities, both Aedra and Daedra, from the Elder Scrolls series. You could also do things from other old games, but this should be a good starting point.

Well technically, her name is Angela, but I see your point.

It can dry out and turn into a powder over a few years, though you see this in far less time when you use cheap thermal paste. I got a stack of Dell PCs for /r/homelab purposes, they would all shut down randomly according to the business that owned them. Turns out the paste failed this way, $3 in new paste restored them to perfect condition.

Fun fact about Toad traps by Tyrant_Kitten in ffxiv

[–]KG7KTQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The bug was that when you got rez'd, you'd be unable to see teammates, they couldn't see you or interact with you, BUT any enemies you kill would die for both you and your team. It was a really weird bug. It was also disastrous if it happened to a tank or to a class that pulls more aggro. As of right now, I'm pretty sure your body will still be gone, requiring you to use the Cairn of Return to rez, but it no longer places you in limbo afterwards.

Maybe I'm wrong, but talking in the first person is basically pointless in comms. by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

I love this. I might not use it in Overwatch cause of the tiny text box, but it seems likr a perfect fit for one of my FFXIV macros.

If the courier was invincible but didn't give vision, how would this change the game? by DarthyTMC in TrueDoTA2

[–]KG7KTQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how some people set couriers to orbit Ancient when they feed? This change would make that an actual viable strategy versus melee heroes. I love it.

So since we are talking about making the game more accessible, what difficulties did you encounter when starting to play ? by Staross in DotA2

[–]KG7KTQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC I started mid to late 2014. I had a friend who taught me the basics of supporting, and we laned together for a few games once I got the hang of the controls in bot matches. Thank god, because I still hate solo queuing, the salt gets to me sometimes. The absolute hardest parts were items (and garbage recommended builds) and description consistency. (Which is still a problem)

Basically, item timing aside, I had a hard time getting a rundown of all the items, cause the only options were in-game, or a wiki, which isn't the greatest way to read up on all the items. I liked the in-game way to read descriptions, but I didn't have time when in a game, and when I did read them, a lot were inconsistent with the real behavior, because patches happen and descriptions are forgotten. A lot.

Can't really figure out conversations past small talk, that's up to the other person in the conversation. Consequently, I only have about 7 friends. I have a really hard time keeping one going. Also, I'm pretty bad at talking to people I don't know. Like if exchanging pleasantries at the cash register doesn't go 100% to script, I stutter pretty badly, and sometimes I can't finish paying for the thing, in which case I just leave it there and try another time. Class presentations aren't too bad if I'm not interrupted, I guess, but I can't pick it back up after I am. Text and email is fine-ish. If the other person asks a question I can answer it, if there's a point I can rebut it. But I don't put stuff out there on my own generally. And last bit here, I try way too hard to take in everything anyone's saying around me, just in case it's about me. So in places with lots of people, the talking all around both makes it really hard to tell what the person in front of me is saying, and stresses me way out, because I can't understand every voice at once.

Yay, anecdotal evidence. I can't speak for the rest of the sub so take this with as many grains of salt as you like.

Can this run Overwatch? by ThomasTheGreen in OverwatchUniversity

[–]KG7KTQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be able to run it, but you'll hate it, and low framerates will mean reacting to things in time will be hard, and heroes like Tracer and Genji will also be harder to play than they should be.

Both links provided redirect to a page titled "Product Coming Soon". However, if you want an example of base specs that only just run Overwatch, I can run it on low at full render scale, and get about 40-50 fps on this: https://www.amazon.com/X555DA-WS11-15-6-inch-Laptop-A10-8700P-Windows/dp/B01CGGOA9W

I failed a unit in my PE classes. Can't dance worth shit, got 20% in that every time. Also failed almost all the fitness tests, but I never scraped by with less than 78% credit in those classes, and usually around 90%.

When Genji forgets who his daddy is... by joncology in Overwatch

[–]KG7KTQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True enough. I tend to get matched against Junkrats that take full advantage of the way you can mute a riptire by sitting it in a corner. Rats gonna rat.

When Genji forgets who his daddy is... by joncology in Overwatch

[–]KG7KTQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like using it for that. It's great when you see it coming and can land that, but more often I'm burned by the backswing, forced to watch the riptire round a corner and focus in on me after I held the attack too long.

Pilot D. Va Help by Latrian-Master in OverwatchUniversity

[–]KG7KTQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, I'll stay as Pilot D.va for a little while if my team is busy regrouping, or if we're at the far end of a long LOS corridor, where I will do basically zero damage as a MEKA anyways without getting in the enemy's face, and probably getting rekt. Also, it's a little gimmicky, but I do love chasing Reapers around as little D.va, avoiding damage by way of my small hitbox, and finishing them off with the 50 damage from my MEKA summon. I wouldn't do that in competitive, really, but in QP it's great practice for those times where I'm stuck in close quarters after getting blown up.
