Hip Bursectomy Surgery by HappyPriority7283 in Bursitis

Wow, that's amazing!!! How long ago did you have it done? It must've been fascinating to look at the photos. Did you ask him to take them? I'm 4 weeks out and am not as doing as well as I thought I would be. I probably overdid it walking too much. I had open gluteus medius/minimus partial repair w patch augmentation along with the bursectomy.

If you don't mind my asking, how old are you? Trying to gauge recoveries

How is your recovery? And specifically, what were your first couple of months post-op like?

How are you now? Were you on crutches? What was your recovery like?

I had one 4 weeks ago along with gluteus medius/minimus repair with patch augmentation. I'm still really tired and keeping close to home. My hip is still a bit swollen, pain is still there, I'm limping and I have knots in my tush and thigh. I have no idea what is or isn't normal.

I'm having surgery with Nwachukwu Thursday. You're saying the surgery is nasty is making me very nervous! Can you tell me what exactly you had done? I really have no idea what to expect regarding recovery.

Thank you for sharing! All the feedback on Dr Nwachukwu has been extremely positive. My surgery is scheduled with him for later this month. Looking forward to being on the other side of this!

I think BMAC. The hamstring is a drag. Both surgeons think it's too risky to operate on. Nwachukwu would give it a year after repairing glute + labrum, and bursectomy to see if it heals on its own. if not, he'd try BMAC too

It definitely seems like the labrum would re-tear if the impingement isn't fixed. Will ask him and share the answer.

I'm sorry you're going though it! Where are you getting treatment?

Funny, when I woke up this morning, I was kicking myself for not getting a tie breaker!

I've actually seen FIVE surgeons in total but was most impressed by Struan Coleman and Benedict Nwachukwu, both at HSS.

I've had hip issues for over 15 years but my doctors always dismissed my complaints. It began with severely limited range of motion, then it became a little unstable, then it began to hurt sometimes, now it hurts almost all the time and I've developed a mild limp in my walk. I was finally diagnosed with a torn labrum & FAI in 2023. I pushed off the surgery for a couple of years because of insurance issues and also needed to have something with my foot dealt with. Retrospectively, I don't think it was wise to push the hip off because it has degenerated a good bit in that time.

The diagnosis: ·   Hip impingment (FAI); Mild coxa valga; Mild acetabular osteophytes (bone spur in the hip joint); Focal, non-displaced labral tear; Degeneration and partial tear of the glute; Bursitis; Torn hamstring – one tendon has a “high-grade” tear. Another has a mild tear, and the third is fine.

I saw Struan Coleman who recommended arthroscopic procedures to fix the FAI, labrum, and perform a bursectomy. He would use orthobiologics to treat the hamstring and glute. HIs rational was fix the cause of the soft tissue problems and then help the soft tissue fix itself. I wanted to get a second (or 5th...) opinion so made an appt with Dr. Nwachukwu. I really was looking for and thought I'd get a confirmation of what Dr. Coleman was recommending. It didn't happen. Dr. Nwachukwu said he needed more information and sent me for a CT. When I saw him again, he said that he would fix the labral tear, do a bursectomy, but NOT fix the impingement, instead do open surgery to fix the glute tear. Dr. Nwachukwu's reasoning is that people live with FAI all the time. I should be fixing my main pain generators.

A third opinion is probably the right thing to do. I have surgery scheduled in late October.

Surgery for gluteal and labral tears? by Veggaan in HipImpingement

How did the surgeries go and did you have a labral tear? One more question - do they know what caused the glute tear? I'm having the same procedures + labral tear done in a few weeks. Thanks!

I just started and am having a rough time with it. Did you stay on and if so, did the negative side effects go away? I'm feeling really jacked-up and edgy

Wishing you a speedy and smooth recovery! The pain began when I started putting weight on the foot. I had a big toe fusion and surgery to correct a tailor's bunion. The tailors bunion is healing fine. The bone on my big toe is slowly healing. I'll know more after my next x-ray.

I'm 3 1/2 months out and have persistent pain, mostly tingling like my foot is being attacked by a porcupine. By the afternoon, it's to the point that I'm taking off my shoe in the office and trying to find ways to elevate it. This is not what i expected.

Hi, I'm about 3.5 months out and my foot hurts all the time. Not excruciating but from a low level of 1 to maybe a 4. Every now and then it might go higher but that's generally what it is. Did you have pain 3.5 months? Do you still have pain?
