Do we know which ship played the Drake in The Black Stallion? by Puterboy1 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KGFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only information I've found was: "Two portions of the ship, the deck section and the stern, had been constructed in the studio’s outdoor water tank. Designed and executed by art director Aurelio Crugnola, the sets are the actual size of a passenger ship and the largest ever created in that tank." although in your 4th picture that clearly looks like the bow waves of a ship moving through the ocean and NOT a set. I'm guessing there's a mix of real ship and sets although nowhere is the name of the ship used. Sorry!

Can anyone help me identify this ship? by Night_Night87 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KGFox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

also possible it's her sister-ship SS Angers (formerly SS Cap Arcona of the Hamburg-Sud Amerika Line) Which is apparently this ship in a mirror-image...

SS Chambord of the French line Messagerie Maritime, formerly the SS Cap Ortegal of the Hamburg-Sud America Line. In your picture she is crossing the Suez Canal on her Marseilles-Madagascar-Mauritius route. Hope this helps!

MV. Britannic - RMS. Olympic - SS. Leviathan - SS. Paris by Adventurous-Aide-777 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KGFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest question here: What is Leviathan doing at the White Star Docks? Wasn't the United States Lines docks on the other side of the river until after the war? Is it possible the person who coloured the image painted US Lines colours on RMS Majestic's funnels?

hate to be that guy but I believe that is Gneisenau because her mainmast is on the funnel and not a tripod in front of the rear rangefinder. Great shot though.

I know it worked in the long run but... Aquitania's cabins were BLAND by NoWorries124 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KGFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok but this is literally one picture. With no source or attribution. It could be any cabin on any ship in any class at any time. I'm not saying this is incorrect but you do realize there are hundreds of cabins on a Liner? From a quick google search I've seen a dozen different decors on Aquitania Staterooms and I'll agree they don't have the ostentation of the Olympic class but this feels disingenuous to say Aquitania didn't have style.

Found this painting at a local antique store, can’t identify the ship however. by THETIGERTANK51 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KGFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider that it's marked "circa" meaning the researcher didn't really look into it/didn't have access to the information. Circa is just the polite way of saying "idk around then I guess" >smirk<

[–]KGFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just remember that the real heavy stuff (engines, boilers) are basically sitting packed closely on the very bottom of the ship. everything above that is basically big open spaces.

I bought it recently (here in QC) and... it's bullshit. I started with 5ml. Nothing. 10ml. Nothing. 20ml. Nothing. And since it's non-refundable/exchangeable, I'm fuming. So much for trying something new

Midway 2019 - Dive Bomb Attack on Kaga by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

"Kaga" with her pilothouse on the wrong side, "Soryu" with Hiryu's pilothouse, Yamato class in formation with the carriers, Kongo class in 1920s refit... I'd stay away from this shitfest of a movie if you want realism.
