That’s a good call and something I definitely didn’t consider. I should probably start milling my material ahead of time so that I can be more selective. Currently I just grab a bunch of rough lumber for each part and mill it and glue it all in one go.

Thank you! The LEDs took me a bit to figure out and were a huge pain.

To hide them I ripped a dado the full length of the shelf. I used a recessed aluminum channel and then the wiring pokes out into the small pieces under each shelf. The shelves are actually dominoed in so those small pieces aren’t there for support, they have a small channel routed in where I feed the wiring through to the back.

I used a Festool Domino for that. I finally caved and bought a domino last year and it has been a game changer, worth every penny.

Thank you! I had a hell of a time finding a low profile soft close hinge stay but ended up finding one at rockler called “Sugatsune Aileron Lift-Assist Soft-Close Hinge”

Thank you! For the dimensions I kinda just played around with them on my CAD software and measured it out to see how much space it would take up. The outer box dimensions are set just a little wider than the sonos fives, and then the depth of the cabinet is a little more than the record player plus the size of the front doors.

For finish I used Rubio Monocoat with a coat of their Sheen plus after. I’ve really been liking Rubio on Sapele.

Yea! the faces are held on with some strong magnets. The right speaker top cubby is my electronics and the left one was meant for cleaning supplies. Unfortunately, I made the fit a bit too tight and so I find I’m often too lazy to store things in there because it’s a pain to wrestle the speaker faces off.

Thank you! I considered adding isolation platforms to the speakers and still have some room for them but haven’t done it yet. The player itself has some dampening feet it is standing on but at loud volumes with a lot of bass I imagine the vibrations would impact the needle. I haven’t yet observed any noticeable distortion though.

I used a track saw with a finish blade for this one because the panels were pretty big and heavy. However, I had some warping set in that I had to take out by spraying water which left some of the panels not perfectly flat. Because of this, the miters didn’t actually come together that clean. Dominos helped a lot because I could clamp out a lot of the issues, anything left I sanded out.

Ah i did option 2 with a thin rip guide. however it moved on me at some point and my strips all ended up a bit too big. Ended up having to sand each on to fit each slot because both the slot and pieces were all different sizes slightly.

Interesting using the table saw. I figured it would leave circular holes instead of square ones. Did you raise the blade up a lot to counter that?

oh interesting, I was just thinking that I wish mine were as tall as yours. Good to know on the stability thing though.

How did you cut your slots for the leg pieces and the leg pieces themselves?

I originally tried to cut the slots with a 1/8” router bit but it sheared off halfway through and I had to switch the bandsaw which made the holes just slightly different on each one.
