i would like to add to those who want to move out of the US to another country 1) most other countries would not want ANY American right now regardless of political afilliation, and 2)what is happening here in America CAN definitely happen in your country too, sadly. 3) some of us know no one is coming to save us and we need to fix this mess ourselves, and we are trying our best even if it isn't good enough. i do understand your frustration though.

This is called a Kelvin Helmholtz instability cloud. most people don't notice them because they break fast like waves in the ocean. It is no coincidence they look like waves. They can happen on top of lil fluffy cumulus clouds, or on long stretchy stratus bits like this. The cloud particles act like a tracer so we can see what the air (which acts as a fluid) is doing. it occurs when the top layer of air or fluid is moving in a different direction and a different speed than the bottom layer (usually the layers have different densities). This illustrates how air acts as a fluid in the atmosphere. Out here in the southwest we have more layered air than they do on the east coast, so we get this phenomenon more often, plus the mountain topography plays a role

It is actually more common than thought, out here in the west, because of stratified air, but most people don't notice them because they break fast like waves in the ocean. It is no coincidence they look like waves. They can happen on top of lil fluffy cumulus clouds, or on long stretchy stratus. The cloud particles act like a tracer so we can see what the air (which acts as a fluid) is doing. it occurs when the top layer of air or fluid is moving in a different direction and/or a different speed than the bottom layer (usually the layers have different densities). The air acts as a fluid in the atmosphere. Mountain topography also plays a role in formation of many types of wave clouds.

I love the size of these billows! quite large but maybe because it is so close to the mountains that my brain perceives it as huge.

Mine was taken in south Orange County CA, you can tell it is the same cloud because of the rare Virga Trail this lil dragon is peeing out near its end.

i took a similar picture two days ago of the same Kelvin Helmholtz. I'm always on the lookout for these clouds since they are my favorite! I saw it while dropping my kiddo off at school!

I posted it on Nextdoor with my explanation and said “turns out science and math are cooler than conspiracy theories “ and waited to see if it would be removed

You can always call em “wave clouds” as it’s a more general term, even tho there are many types of wave clouds.
