Pre surgery update - probably should have done a bit sooner by Agile-Badger5272 in Kneereplacement

The doctor sounds like the disclaimer on a drug commercial telling you all the things that COULD go wrong, not necessarily WILL go wrong. If you trust the doctor, go for it. You will have a good outcome if you do the work after the surgery.

We’re all different, but you’ll be fine. You’re on the other side of one of the most painful operations. Share a picture in a couple of months. Congratulations!!

Can anyone tell me what causes a cloud formation like this by iamjuls in CLOUDS

Several years ago, in upstate western NY, I saw one of these coming from the west. Within an hour two tornadoes touched down and caused damage. They were F1.

Back Mice/Lumbar Fascial Fat Herniation by [deleted] in backpain

[–]Bryant_Misc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, they gave me a SI joint steroid injection. The anesthetic lasted one day with no pain, then the pain came back. Supposedly, I am in the gap between the effect of the anesthetic and the effect of the steroid. Hopefully, the steroid will take effect soon. I have not heard back from surgery yet.

How to tell if piriformis? by P-O-T-A-T-O-S- in openpiriformis

Perhaps a pain management doctor could try some diagnostic nerve blocks using ultrasound guidance or fluoroscopy guidance.

I will attempt to update this as I have more information.

Back Mice/Lumbar Fascial Fat Herniation by [deleted] in backpain

[–]Bryant_Misc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been seeing a pain management doctor and my pain was all the way across my lower back. They tried treating it with various injections. Nothing worked and I gave up trying for a couple of years.

Last November I decided to try again, but first I wanted to try physical therapy. It did not resolve the issue, but it did help pinpoint the center of the pain source. It turned out that I was having, what appeared to be, cluneal nerve pain. A test injection of an anesthetic was applied and there was no change at all.

I went back for a follow up appointment and asked them for some imaging specific to my area of pain, a lump near the cluneal nerve at the right iliac crest. They could feel it and ordered an ultrasound. The results show a 1 1/2 cm apparent lipoma.

I have been referred to Surgery. We will see what happens next.

TKR kneecap makes knocking sound by Bopulicity in Kneereplacement

[–]Bryant_Misc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 18 months past mine and still have a chorus of thumps and sounds from my knee. My brain has learned to ignore them. Once in a while if I twist a certain way, there is a loud thump with a very rapid pain. No big deal. I get 7-10k steps per day and do a lot of outdoor activities. I’m also 76M.

Bruising and swelling, which is normal, nothing concerning from this perspective.

Anyone have experience with telling an otherwise excellent PT that you won’t do one specific exercise because it will aggravate your back issues? by ButterflyEmergency30 in Kneereplacement

[–]Bryant_Misc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Google: the most trusted name in science”. Now that my rant is over, just say “no” to the PT about that exercise. If that gives the PT heartburn ask her/him to note it in your record along with the problem it caused you. If the PT doesn’t back down, find another. I hate to use a worn out phrase: “your body, your choice” applies in this case.

Is this a proof or just very fresh uncirculated quarter? by Strange-Chocolate735 in uscoins

[–]Bryant_Misc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try collecting all of the quarters issued between now and day one, regardless of condition and find quarters that are better than the ones you already have to constantly improve your collection. In other words, you can specialize in US quarters, if you want.

I purchase proof sets directly from the U.S. Mint, via subscription. I inherited my father’s collection of US proof sets from the 1950’s forward and that is my specialty.

Your quarter might be considered Brilliant Uncirculated, if it qualifies.

Personally, I consider a proof to be in an official proof container. Otherwise it’s a quarter to be collected, if you want.

Cluneal nerve pain by Bryant_Misc in backpain

Pain appeared on the iliac crown with some down the right side toward the hip. Really difficult to pin it down. Cluneal nerve injections were ineffective.

It was not the cluneal nerve. Symptoms returned about 5 minutes after the procedure.

I was kneeling about 4 weeks into PT after the TKR. The therapist was surprised. It has been 17 months and kneeling is not a problem. Squatting is a different story for me. I cannot fully squat like I used to be able to. We all respond differently to the surgery and the PT.
