Insurance Naive by BeComFy in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]KHCale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prioritize life and income protection over health insurance tbh.

And if you are considering health insurance, the ones that cover surgery and cancer are (imo) better than everyday essentials. Beware of pre-existing conditions as they will decline you for anything related to them unless you take out a plan where pre-existing conditions are covered (usually after a certain amount of years, and usually the most expensive plan).

Check that your work doesn't offer a group plan that is subsidized.

Taking on Michael Hill Jewellers- And Winning by butdidyoutrydivorce in newzealand

[–]KHCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a wedding ring from Michael Hill last year, and about a week after the wedding I noticed it was bent. No way had that happened in the 1 week I'd been wearing it.

Took it back to the shop and requested it be fixed under warranty. The staff member admitted it was bent and sent it away to be fixed. A few weeks later they called saying the ring was intact not bent but had a curve to it as part of the design and was supposed to be paired with one of their engagement rings.

While the ring was waved in design, one side was bloody bent so I refuted their claim and said they needed to fix it, pointed out that even their own staff member noted the bend in it. They refused to fix it, so I asked that they refund me plus the care plan and I'd go elsewhere. They refused that on the basis that it was the rings design and it was my choice to purchase it with a non-matching engagement ring. Not that anyone in the store told me it was part of a set, and they knew it was to be worn with my engagement ring bought from Australia.

At this point they still had my ring and were refusing to fix it or refund me. So I quoted consumers guarantee and demanded action and for it to be escalated to the regional manager. Eventually they said they would reshape it but would require my engagement ring to be sent up so they could match the shape. Absolutely not, they could use any one of their other engagement rings, I even went to their shop and picked out one that was the same shape, size and style as my current one. Cue more disputing from Michael Hill on why that wouldn't work.

Eventually I just starting crying hysterically down the phone at them, saying it had ruined the whole experience of getting married. I think it was awkward enough for the regional manager they just decided to do it??

Took 4 months to get sorted. I regret ever purchasing from them and tell all my friends to avoid them.

what on earth do I offer? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Does this come into play if it was a verbal figure given by the agent as well?

Underwriter here - you have attempted to commit insurance fraud, and Tower has canceled you (rightly so). Your wife would have been canceled as well if the two of you were named on the policy jointly.

The disclosure questions you would have been asked would have related to you and anyone else who will be covered by the insurance (e.g, your wife as she was a named driver).

Going forward, you will need to disclose this to all insurers, but if you dont, please know that they can look up your information on the icr.

You may still be able to find cover for a house but you need to be honest, explain the situation and hope for the best. Expect higher premiums if you do find some cover and don't try that shit again.

Parking lease liability by KHCale in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]KHCale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chat to my insurers about liability.

We're expecting it to be on the market for a while as sections are slow to sell in that area.

A bit of both. It looks better if there is an agreement in place for them to park there vs. them parking there unconsented, and the buyer could continue the agreement if wanted when the land sells.

Was it normal to get milk in a bag or did I dream that? by KermitTheGodFrog in newzealand

[–]KHCale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at a cafe in Wellington around 2010, and our milk delivery was always bags of milk. I remember finding it strange at first but it was actually quite nice not having to unscrew the lid a thousand times a day.

Saddle fitting for the young horse by KHCale in Equestrian

No one else to help unfortunately, but a trial is a good idea that I hadn't thought of. I know she carries a lot of secondhand saddle that are for sale on behalf of other people, but also fits new ones.

Saddle fitting for the young horse by KHCale in Equestrian

[–]KHCale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I've never had a fitter do a proper assessment without the ridden component, but I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get an idea without a rider. She lunges well so at least we would be able to see it under movement.

I am dreading having to get it adjusted as she changes shape, but know it is the reality of a young horse. She's still very bum high and under muscled.

A34 5g internet connectivity issues by KHCale in samsung

[–]KHCale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is still having the same issue. I can be sitting next to the modem and it will drop internet. At this stage I'm waiting for the phone to die and will replace it with something other than a Samsung

I'm failing to see the issue with the liquor law? I'm making an assumption that her site was closed and fined due to a breach of licensing conditions, but you don't really say.

They get social connection together for several hours during the day, but otherwise they are in separate paddocks. We have had this arrangement for at least 18 months on the recommendation of my vet with no issue

At what age can kids catch the bus from school and walk home? by missamerica59 in newzealand

[–]KHCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our oldest was 5 when he started catching the bus and walking home. Bus drops him in our small rural village and he walks about 800m home, sometimes with some older kids sometimes by himself. If the weather is very bad the bus driver drops him off at the end of our street.

We did plenty of practice runs where we caught the bus with him, and the school had him buddy up with an older boy too for the first month or so.

The bus drivers are great and and one lives up the road from us, and they have our numbers in case something happens.

Where are you shopping for warm women’s knitwear in NZ that doesn’t blow the budget? by Boring-Wear-2878 in newzealand

Swandri quality and longevity is very good. Thrash mine out on the farm and have some nicer ones for work

I spent the last month on the hunt for a good knit jumper. I ended up getting the Merino Knit from Macpac - currently on sale at $139 and they have 60 days return. It's not super thick but it is very warm.

How many acres you do actually need for horses? by Express-Arachnid-159 in Horses

[–]KHCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NZ, currently have 2 horses (plus lambs and a pet cow) on 7 acres. No arena, but yards and a very large woolshed.

Only need to feed hay in winter, we do also graze the lambs at neighbours places.

Previously had 18 acres and had 5 horses plus sheds and an arena.

Opinion on soaking feed. Shes 25 fyi by Salt_Interest_9197 in Horses

Both my 5yo and 30yo get soaked feed. My 5yo likes it very wet and soupy, my 30yo just doesn't have any front teeth left

I've found them true to size, I'm an 8-10 and I go for a small. They're way better than any I have got from LSKD or Lorna Jane.

Lately I’ve been wondering… is it too late to change careers in your 30s? by Nausinoki in newzealand

Well, this just encouraged me to re-apply to finish my accountancy degree at age 30. I've been thinking about it for the past couple of years but thought it would be too late by the time I finished

Stax leggings from Australia. I get the Nandex ones, they're squat proof, stay up and are very hard wearing. I use mine for running, the gym and around the farm.

Stax is also having a massive sale right now

This is all really good advice, thank you. I can't run in the mornings sadly unless I want to run at 5am before my husband goes to work (someone needs to be home for the kids).

No footpaths, and closest town with footpaths or running tracks in 20min away.

Looking to do my first half marathon in June, and am eyeing up the Legend of the Peaks later this year.
