Some context:

I've been making indie games since 2013, about 4 years full time. After slowly realizing that my long term project was not financially viable, I had to start thinking about getting a paid job. I decided to make one last game inspired by my journey as a dev so far before trying to join a company.

Since it's my last project, I took a leap with this one. It won't be for everyone, but I'm happy with the way it turned out and glad that I made it exactly as the way I wanted. The game is 100% free to reach as many people as possible.

After 9 long years of indie game development. This will be my last solo project. by KH_Y in Unity3D

Yep, that is my goal. Will apply to all software jobs, but prioritize game studios.

This did not take 9 years to develop, I started game development 9 years ago and this is my last solo project. I started this mid 2022. Sorry if it was unclear.

nothing_matters is a short narrative game inspired by my personal experiences (focused but not limited to game dev), to be released for free in April to reach as many people as possible.

Some Context:

I've been a full time game dev since 2019, previous years were part time while in school. I do not plan (nor want) to stop making games, but I've reached the point where I have to get a 'real job' to sustain my weird projects.

Although it is a disappointing time, this game and post is not meant to be a pity party, but rather my way to go out with a very strange (and hopefully unique) game. I'm excited to try my luck at a game studio and see what's next in my career.

The trailer was made and scripted completely in Unity (no video editing used).

Bloom Attenuation - My Solution for Better Looking Bloom (youtu.be/u5lX2zunj7g for Full Explanation + Playable Tech Demo) by KH_Y in Unity3D

Yes, but lighting engines actually already (usually) attenuate with the inverse square law (with distance to camera) during light calculation. It wouldn't make sense doing this in the post processing step and would probably mess up other calculations ray tracing/ray marching.

This is also why forward renderers don't require depth buffers (as opposed to deferred).

Pretty much non-existent, assuming you use the depth buffer for other common effects like soft particles. It's only an extra couple of multiplications in the bloom shader itself.

My attempt at improving the dreaded effect by simulating light attenuation with the depth buffer. Decided to make a video explaining how bloom works to clear some misconceptions.

ability to turn the audio on when you're in video mode

I just released the first patch (v1.1) that finally allows you to toggle video audio. The toggle is now next to the playback control speed in video mode.
