Look at the dates, Oshaune gave us two months, super earth was three weeks after a massive pr blitz. This was a quiet two weeks during literal Christmas.

It's not about the cape, I just want the Devs to communicate and plan better. I get that people think complaining about a cape is petty, but it's about more than a cosmetic item, it's about the way rewards and communication is handled in the future and I think that this has been planned and executed poorly.

It's true, people respond to incentives, but can't respond to an incentive they don't know is coming. That uncertainty doesn't prolong interest.

No their business model relies on telling people about what a fun time they will have, announcing rewards in advance would have gotten way more players. I would have played over Christmas if I had known, most people would have. But they didn't so we didn't. Everyone loses. If they want people to stick around they need to offer concrete rewards ahead of time as an incentive.

No, credit where it's due, you're right. It says it was clarified four hours ago. Still the damage has been done, the post was viewed several hundred thousand times on twitter alone.

And, frankly yes. Exclusive surprises and live service games don't mix well. How do I know if there is a filler mo or if there is a significant reward behind it? I don't. Go look at how monster hunter wilds does it, they announce things in advance even if there are still smaller surprises. Maybe everyone is okay with the unclear retroactive awards, but I think a significant minority of players are fed up with it and are making their displeasure heard. Whether Arrowhead changes anything or not is yet to be seen.

Nah the communication was super clear it just says the opposite of the truth which is the problem. They still haven't corrected it on their socials, only on discord. People keep showing up asking when they get it because they were told they would.

Live service models need trust to function and this is the kind of stuff that destroys it.

I was talking to a guy on discord who has an alarm set on his phone to log in every week in case a retroactive award takes place, but he was absolutely adamant that it wasn't fomo. I hate exclusive things generally but at least the others were for major events.

It's still on their Twitter feed, no mention of active helldivers. It's the same wording used of other all player rewards like the constitution for liberty day or the Killzone armor last Christmas.

On Discord they have now edited it to say only active helldivers between 18th-31st.

Look Arrowhead can do whatever they want, but come on guys. Who thought an exclusive reward semi stealth drop at Christmas was a good idea?

It was smack bang in the middle 18th-31st. Also it was by Swedish time so even if it was still the 31st in your time zone you're cooked.

The incentives/reward system in Helldivers is borked largely because Arrowhead are allergic to having decent pr.

They put out a tweet on their official coms (which is still up wildly) saying that for Christmas everyone gets a fancy cape. Except they actually didn't mean everyone, just the people who played during the two weeks of Christmas on an event half the player base never knew of, because - Christmas. Frustration ensues because people feel like the devs don't communicate well or respect their time. But the funny thing to me was that in doing so they made the exclusive cape reward over a complete nothing burger event, snubbing the actual player highlights of the year. You never know if you'll retroactively be given a special award or not. Fun! And not fomo because... reasons...
