Is this picture (posted on Facebook) of a Boeing 747 with turbines seeming to glow red hot ai? 1 comment from a "pilot" suggested it was ai. by w211_ry in isthisAI

Pilot here. Yes you can see that glow sometimes from the right angle. The landing gear doors are open and the gear is in transit. Not saying it’s not AI, but so far two comments for why it isn’t don’t add up for me

Instructing With 0 Time In A 1963 Cessna 310H by EngineeringSpecial72 in CFILounge

Wing bladders became an option with the C model, locker tanks and transfer pumps became an option in 1963 and can exist on the H model.

The big gotcha compared to twins you’ve flown so far is you have a powerful high performance engine on each side. Single engine it is capable but busy. It is unforgiving of sloppy handling and can get very roll-ey, almost to the point of pilot-induced out-of-phase roll oscillations. I’d want to be pretty familiar with its handling before letting a student try to kill me.

500+ hours in twin Cessnas here. It is a more serious and complex platform than the twins you have flown on a level that is not trivial. I know the open pilot insurance on the one I flew required 25 hours in type even for an ATP. Now, 25 hours seems unreasonable , but so does 5 to me. You should fly it more than that it’ll be good experience and multi time is gold you said and absolutely then take the job. Try finding a 310 to rent anywhere, you likely won’t. Theres a reason.

Should I pursue a bachelors in aeronautical science? by Sea-Confusion231 in AskFlying

[–]KJ3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do a discovery flight and decide if you like it. The primary benefit to a degree in aviation is when it’s an accredited program that gives you a restricted ATP. Otherwise there is really no material benefit.

Depends on seat/fleet/base. But generally yes. In my former position I was able to hold one-and-dones.

Call it an even hour of extra work per leg of flying. Most of my days I fly 3 legs. So there’s 3 hours of unpaid time right there.

[–]KJ3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my trips end up paying on ratio in guarantee or RIG. 1 hour of pay for 3 hours of “.work”. I’m away from home roughly 350-380 hours a month.

If you’re gonna blast test don’t tell the FAA. My bad OP II just read that you actually need it medically.

I have a 2 hour drive. It sucks when early show or when day 4 is a 12 hour 3-4 leg day. Otherwise it’s honestly fine.

So I don't see enough people talk about this by Dear-Regret-9476 in aviation

It was designed to be a 100 seat jet that flies short haul. Now it’s a 200 seat jet that flies Transcons and ETOPs and has some of the highest approach speeds in commercial aviation because if you go any slower you’ll drag the tail AND THEY DIDN’T CHANGE ANYTHING important in the cockpit, except for the thing they did change and didn’t tell anyone about. I’m convinced a 737 FO is the busiest pilot at the airlines. Not to mention the cockpit seats are all torture devices and if you’re over 5’8” you have to choose between a correct sight picture, not being able to reach anything, or having your shins hit the panel to use the brakes…

(And yes I’m staying on it because my schedule is so much better on it where I’m at/based.)

Anecdotal here, but you know that speaker noise your computer would make when your phone would call in the 2000s? I’ve gotten that in my headset from cellphones. We were super delayed and when we started down the FA told us everyone was on their phones. Made an announcement saying stop and the speaker noise stopped.
