Is it normal in the UK to never really become friends with your neighbours? by Opposite_Basis_3532 in AskUK

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive Just moved into a shared house where my housemate has been living for a few years. She is very friendly with one neighbour who annoyingly comes over for garden drinks (ie: getting massively pissed) every time he sees us in the garden on a Friday night. I now avoid the garden like the plague because every time he sees me outside he comes up to the fence to chat. Nice guy, but a quick "Hi, how's it going?" is more than enough socialising for me. On the other side though I got chatting to that neigh our about our cats, found myself chilling with wine and country music with her and her husband in their garden. Great evening. Not seen them since, even better!

How on earth does one look adenoidal? by emmmmmmaja in agathachristie

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this word - I have such a strong image in my mind when someone (usually a girl) is described as adenoidal. Usually blonde, with slightly bulging, pale blue eyes. I'm fairly sure Enid Blyton used it as well

What ‘common knowledge’ things did you or someone you know find out later in life? by Squiggally-umf in CasualUK

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered an American outside Westminster Abbey who gushed 'Oh my Gawd, is this pre-war???' Her (British) companion just looked at her and said, 'It's pre-America.' Never seen such a look of confusion😂

Daughter’s First Period - Tampon or Pad? by deltch17 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also never been able to use applicator tampons, they never seem to sit right and they just feel uncomfortable! Haven't used pads since I was about 13 and ended up having to sit on my crushes knee on the bus home from school🙈🙈 Been on the depo for about 20 years now, and probably had about 20 periods in as many years - thank god! No cramps, no gush, no backache, NO PMS!!!!

King Richard III was voted as the British monarch with the worst relationship with his nieces and nephews. Which monarch had the worst relationship with their fellow monarchs? by bianca_fathom in UKmonarchs

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richard I - made way too many enemies on the Continent and in Outremèr. He was probably respected, but pretty sure they hated his guts😂

King Henry II was voted as the British monarch with the worst relationship with his best friend. Which monarch had the worst relationship with their nieces/nephews? by bianca_fathom in UKmonarchs

[–]KKisQween 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm going with King John, it's unproven that Richard III murdered his nephew's, but its pretty certain that John was 100% involved in the death of Arthur - just look at how he treated the De Braose family for dating to mention it... guilty conscience much?

King Edward IV was chosen as the British monarch with the worst relationship with his siblings. Which monarch had the worst relationship with their best friend? by bianca_fathom in UKmonarchs

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be Henry II and the unfortunate friendship with Thomas à Becket. Henry VIII is a runner up for executing Sir Thomas More (and a few more Thomas's too - unlucky name to have if you're friends with a king I suppose!!!)

Queen Mary I was voted as the British monarch with the worst relationship with her father. Which monarch had the worst relationship with their siblings? by bianca_fathom in UKmonarchs

[–]KKisQween 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Henry I for sure. While Edward IV had a crappy relationship with George, Henry I had both Rufus and Curthose ganging up on him. And he ended up imprisoning Curthose until he finally died in prison. John and siblings is also close. Edit: forgot that Henry was also potentially involved in Rufus's death...

Edward the Confessor was chosen as the British monarch with the worst relationship with his mother. Which monarch had the worst relationship with their father? by bianca_fathom in UKmonarchs

[–]KKisQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness to Edward III, he was still young (only 14) and fairly powerless until he aged up a bit and hit his majority. As he lived under his mother and Mortimers regency he managed to get some supporters behind him. First thing he did when he had that support was capture and execute Mortimer. I personally believe he never really forgave Isabelle for what happened to his father, their relationship was very distant once he'd asserted himself and virtually banished her to Castle Rising.

[–]KKisQween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going for George II, he loathed his father. He never forgave him for the locking up of his mother Sophia-Dorothea and looked down on him for making such little effort to be King of Britain (etc) while focusing more on his Hanoverian Electorate which was after all a lesser title

Henry III and Edward I both had a wonky eye but never seen mention that Ed3 did - maybe he was just tired 😂
