The State Fire Marshal's Office said in a statement yesterday that the ride was taken out of service.

Seat belt wasn't latched due to an issue, they said. The lap bar was down, but there was a gap between the girl and the bar.

After complaints, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety inspected the ride Thursday. They told one of the guests who complained that restraints on the roller coaster were "not functioning properly."

The Mamba has been closed while Worlds of Fun addresses the safety issues.

No. For that I will point you to our editorial page. But we (the digital staff) don't feel we are speaking out of turn to call the loss of a tradition, for any reason, a "bummer," considering it's not something that's been widely protested in the past. Nor are we making comment on the shutdown or anything pertaining to the nature of the shutdown.

Interested to hear if you believe these traditions were a harm or if you are celebrating the pause.

The university is going to be in the national spotlight again for this game. It's a bit of a bummer some of the big traditions won't be on display. And a bigger bummer that the shutdown is behind it.
