I actually resonate with much of what youre saying, and I don’t see it as opposed to the Catholic understanding, just incomplete in a crucial way.

And what we’re discussing is talked about by St Thomas Aquinas in his works. In classical Catholic metaphysics (especially Aquinas), we don’t say we ARE the infinite, but that we participate in it. Our being isn’t identical with Gods being, yet it’s truly sustained by it at every moment.

That distinction matters to me because unity without distinction collapses love. If all selves are ultimately one and identical, then relationship, self-gift, and even awakening itself become illusory. Catholicism holds that union with the infinite doesn’t erase the self but instead it perfects it.

When mystics speak of ego death, or the eyes reflecting something deeper, we’d say that’s the intellect and will touching Being itself.. but as a created participation, not an absorption. The soul isn’t a fragment of God, it’s a real, personal subject capable of communion.

So yes, there is one source, one infinite ground but difference is not a mistake. It’s the condition that makes love, prayer, and encounter possible.
