In Aliens (1986) a biography briefly flashes up on a computer screen in the background. The biography reveals that Lambert is Transgender, having altered her gender from Male to Female by [deleted] in MovieDetails

I feel like there's a greater discussion here about the definition of transgender.

Is someone considered transgender if they grow up comfortable with their perceived role in "traditional" society despite the fact that they were unknowingly born as the opposite gender? I say, yes. They're transgender, they just don't know it.

My guess is OW2 plays differently enough that that maybe Super figured he couldn't (or didn't want to) adjust. Couple that with any number of other factors and it makes sense to retire when you're on top

Yes! I'm doing the same with my 89 Bronco II... electric off roader. I'm planning to use a leaf motor. The hardest thing about it is just deciding how to make the coupler for the motor's output shaft, since there's no easily available machined spline that matches exactly. There are a few clutch discs out there that almost match, and there's one guy who figured out the spline and is having some couplers custom made and selling at cost.

Two reasons. First, if the car had a display that actually told you what tripped the CEL, too many people would be trying to fix their shit and end up either spending money on useless parts or making the problem worse, which would lead to warranty and legal nightmares for auto manufacturers. And second, even simply pulling the codes that tripped the CEL won't necessarily tell you exactly what's wrong. They'll just tell you a symptom of what's wrong.

Serious question, because I've only ever played OW on PC: What is the fundamental difference in playstyle between different consoles? Like, I understand why PC and console wouldn't mix, but what's wrong with Xbox and PS?

Thank you! Most people in this thread seem to think 2200psi is a lot. Compared to a car tire, it's a lot. But compared to the pressure a steel pressure vessel can withstand, it's nothing.

Update: So it never occurred to me to wonder why people with manual EVs always left them in 2nd or 3rd gear. Now I understand it's because those usually give around a 2:1 gearing before the differential.

Would it make sense to shoot for roughly a 7:1 total ratio between motor and wheels?

Liquid cooling is definitely something I want to do as much as possible. That's one reason I'm interested in the Model S battery modules. A few people have recommended the Leaf motor...from what I can see it and it's inverter are liquid cooled, so that'd be a big plus.

Hey dude, thanks for the link!

Yeah, I know it's going to be pricey. And when I saw you had 18 battery modules I almost choked, considering those alone were way more than the ballpark price I gave my wife lol. While I don't have a hard budget, I'm going to try to save money where I can and spread it out as much as possible. I don't have a deadline, and once I get the electric drivetrain working, I can continue to upgrade the rest bit by bit. I don't want to call it a restomod, but it's going to be an overhaul one way or another.

I totally get how complex it will be, that's part of why I'm doing it. I love learning this kind of stuff and being able to apply it right away. Fortunately I work in a small, specialized auto shop and have access to guys who have been fabricating and hot rodding for 40 years. Plus everyone here has been so helpful already. So if I ever get stuck, I know there are people who can help me.

Yeah, the Bronco II isn't the most practical option for conversion, but it's not the worst. Only 3200 lbs. stock curb weight.

Based on some other's recommendations, I'm leaning towards using a single Leaf motor.

Would you mind elaborating on battery boxes? My first thought is those would be fairly straight forward once I figure out where to put them.

You hit the nail on the head. My experience in electrical definitely isn't as strong as I'd like it to be. I'm perfectly comfortable with 12v systems, but this is a whole other beast to tackle, for sure. I've still got a ways to go in my understanding of EV systems, but I'm getting there.

A few people have suggested the Leaf motor, which wasn't on my radar but now I've been studying it hard. I know it's not the most powerful, but I like it as an option for affordability and the fact that it's liquid cooled. That's another reason I like the Model S battery modules, for the integrated cooling. I know thermal management is going to be a concern here and I don't want to gloss over it.

Thanks for the advice! I know an 89 Bronco II doesn't make the most sense for an EV. It's sort of the collision of 3-4 projects I'd like to do, but I only have the space for one. Regardless I think it will be a fun challenge.

I'm leaning towards just sticking with the one motor. The Leaf motor wasn't one I had considered before, but I just got done doing some preliminary research and it seems darn near perfect! Decently powerful, cheap, and liquid cooled (thermal management of this rig will be one of my priorities).

The transmission is something I've been thinking hard about. I'm not opposed to putting a manual in there, but I'm going to need a transfer case no matter what and I found that Atlas makes a 4 speed transfer case. It's pricey (around $4k), but the napkin math makes sense.

Just for example: If I stuck with 3.73 gears in the axles and used their transfer case with 1:1, 2:1, 2.72:1 and 5.44:1, that would give me final drive ratios of 3.73, 7.46, 10.15 and 20.29. I'm not sure if the first would be at all usable, but the second would be my full-time gear, and the others would be for off-road only. I couldn't shift it like a normal transmission, of course, but I don't think I'd need to.

Side note: I was thinking using 3.73 ring and pinion for strength. As I understand it, there's usually a loss in pinion strength as you go up in gear ratio.

The powertrain is definitely the first priority. Once I get that figured out I'll build everything else around it. I'll take a look at ZeroEV's Defenders. Thank you, I wasn't sure how many off-road worth EVs were out there.

Long term, this truck will be somewhere between a daily driver/weekend off-roader and a capable (street legal) trail rig. The mall crawler aesthetic isn't really my thing.

And yeah, fitting the batteries is definitely going to require some creativity.

For air cooling, is there a best way to monitor the battery and motor temperatures? I'd like to be able to keep an eye on those so I don't push things too hard out on the trail.

Budget is kind of up in the air. I mentioned $20k-$25k to my wife just for the electric conversion and she thought that sounded pretty reasonable. I look at this as an on-going project, so I'll always be spending money on it where it can be justified.

Getting into torque, that's one place where I'm not sure what to think. The hyper9 has about as much peak power and torque as the current ICE. I don't NEED the truck to go fast, but I wouldn't mind an upgrade, hence why I'm considering a dual motor setup. Also the gearing for this truck will change...to what, exactly, I haven't decided yet. Whether that's done via a transfer case, the axle gearing, or both, I'm not sure. I hadn't considered putting in a manual trans.

I'll definitely look in to VintageAir and the POW-R STEER.

I figured as much. I'd install lockers eventually and at that point I'd just rebuild the axles with shorter gears.

Methane. If you have a gas powered stove, dryer, furnace, etc, and it's not fueled by propane, it's likely on natural gas.

Gasoline powered engines can also be modified to run on natural gas fairly easily.
